my daughter is on mtx and just started taking the sulph one this wek, the last two blood tests she has had 9while just on the mtx ) have shown that her iron level is low and th most recent blood test showed it had dropped again , after speaking to our own doctor she said the hospital should be letting them no the results and they havent been doing this, apparantly she is low in B12, my daughter rang again this morniong and they are no faxing the info to our doctor, why go for blood tests when they dont follow things thru, and then they get stroppy as if it your fault, our doctor is looking into it further and says its not accetable,WHAT IS B12 ,
thanks and sorry to rant

I think B12 is a vitamin, and like all vitamins is useful for something! The to-ing and fro-ing of blood results is a tricky one - I fill in my blood forms now because I got so tired of nurses etc getting them wrong. Only when something IS rocket science can one be assured of a professional performance.

I've just remembered that I was out on iron tablets for about 6 months last year: my iron levels dropped considerably and it took a while for them to recover. DD

i think B12 helps us use the iron in our food?

Hope you get some answers soon.

I have taken it from time to time as I am a veggie

Hi, sounds like the hospital are being stroppy to cover up their lack of follow up, GP sounds onside though. Being low on iron can make you feel very grotty - is she on suppliments now?

    Re Vitamin B12,
"Vitamin B12 is a member of the vitamin B complex. It contains cobalt, and so is also known as cobalamin. It is exclusively synthesised by bacteria and is found primarily in meat, eggs and dairy products. .... Vitamin B12 is necessary for the synthesis of red blood cells, the maintenance of the nervous system, and growth and development in children. Deficiency can cause anaemia." source http://www.vegsoc.org/info/b12.html

PS marmite is a source of B12 too.
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

been following your thread marooned. so glad your daughter has been able to go riding again and feeling a bit better....

sorry she has to have those 10 injections (B12??) though if they help it will all be worth it.

......about the blood results not being sent. Are your doc and the hosp on the same system? mine aren't so the hosp can't 'see' my blood results and vice versa. thought I'd mention just in case it was the same for you.

hope all goes well from now on..
