Hi Aquaman - I don't think we've "met" so welcome to the forum.

Sorry you are in such pain. There are several peeps on here with experience of joint replacements and I know someone will be along soon with words of wisdom.

    Love Tilly xx

Hi aquaman, does the walking stick help with the hip pain? If not I would ask for an elbow style crutch ... just because I find it gives more support.

Do you mean will the hip problems affect your knee? The hip was may well have worn out because of the knee - as prior to your op you may have walked to compensate. Using a stick shouldn't affect your knee negatively - it will just take some of the weight off your leg.

I had my first hip replacement at 30 (left) and recently at 43 - a resurface-replacement on the right. The only problem with having these ops young is that they are more likely to wear out - but I'm sure you were told that about your knee replacement. No harm in going to see the ortho and getting some x-rays done so that you know what you are dealing with.

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Aquaman

I had a TKR in February (left knee) and noticed that my left hip has started to hurt. When I told my GP she says that it is possible that I'll end up with OA in the hips too. I shouldn't think it will affect your new knee they're supposed to last 10-15 years. You are young to have a replacement but I'm sure there are people out there who are younger who may have had it done.

Hopefully, someone out there who has had it done will respond. Mention it to your GP the next time you visit.

    Arthur is a nuisance.
