Geoffrey Hutchings has died at 71. You may remember him as Mel in the comedy Benidorm. He was due to start filming a special for Christmas but fell ill with a viral infection.

    That is sad news Ron, I love that program, and he was a good character too

    I think they always say it was a viral infection, when they don't really know what was wrong.

    Very sad, I knew him when he worked on the Maigret series, after that he played Sid James in his life story, before making Benidorm.
    The entire cast will be gutted, they're just about to start the special, then early next year they were making series 4.

    Didnt know the actor's name Ron
    but thats a shame. 71 is young, well
    I have only 5 yrs before I get to that age
    thats why I think its young.
