What do your finger and toe nails look like?

I love getting inspiration for threads from you guys - this one is in Val's honour.
I never do anything to my finger nails apart from keep them very short. I used to have ezcema and so learned to keep them short from an early age to stop breaking the skin when scratching. I never paint them because I can't be bothered to redo them all the time.
I like to paint my toe nails, used to do them all the time. But for the past year I've been going swimming a lot so rarely bother now.
Over to you guys...

I don't like my fingernails too long, because they would annoy me and get in the way if they were long. I always paint my toenails in the summer, when they are on show in sandals, but don't bother in the winter.0

bitten and neat in that order
I have always bitten my nails except for a brief period where i had beautiful nails but then I gave up smoking and they were doomed
I don't excessively bite them though so most people can't tell
my toe nails grow really slowly so I keep them neat on my good days...I used to paint them with pale nail varnish but now have a toddler & full time job .. to be honest even if i did have the time/energy i'm not sure i could reach them any more!

I`ve become quite vain about my hands and nails as I don`t have "old lady " - well, not yet!! - liver spotty hands, like lots of my friends do. My nails are strong so I have them quite long, and I always paint them, and my toes to match. Growing old disgracefully!0

Fingernails in good nick. Strong, quite long, I can't bite them anymore since I bit the worktop in the kitchen when I fainted. Can't bite anything, come to think of it! I coat them with OPI nail envy, it helps them grow and stay strong.
My toenails are, and have always been, rubbish. I can't reach them now to file them or paint them. I cut them with clipppers, and after my last, few disastrous attempts when I got my toes too, I now have clippers with a little magnifying lens. I still have to wear my specs tho, and dose up on pain killers an hour before operations commence. Just in case I cut the tops off my toes. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. My finger nails keep short as they break easily and im a practical person like getting hands dirty not a nail painting person
My toe nails yuk hard my large toes are turning pointing towards the others toes not straight. Little toes bending towards others very hard and tough to cut just hate em :oops:Joanne0 -
My finger nails are short - I keep them that way as that is practical. My toe nails are like talons as I can't cut them - damn 90 degree rule. I always struggle to cut the ones on the older THR leg anyway - as it is a bit rubbish for range of movement... DIY suggestions welcome! (otherwise will have to ask GP for chiropodist referral at my appointment on Friday ... which would be torturous as I have very ticklish feet !)
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -

Mine are awful! Years of steroids have taken their toll. I keep them shortish and cover them up with a pale varnish.
Have had to have chiropody on my feet for years due to problems other than arther...........so I would be out of practice even if I could reach them now!

Mine so far are strong. They grow so quickly though. I could have long nails if I wanted to. I give them a little buff now and again so I cannot put nail polish on.
They look like they have nail varnish on though.

My fingernails are very weak so I can't grow them at all and keep them very short.
My feet are the bain of my existence and I hate them with a passion. I try to ignore them and other than keeping them clean and trim I don't do much for them.
My whole family on one side has the same feet with special features we refer to as 'tree frog toes'. This goes some way towards recognising how weird and wonderful they truly are - I fear if Attenbrough or his mates saw us we would be classified as a sub species so please all, keep this under wraps.
My feet are also scarred from years of nasty eczema and a couple of operations so needless to say, they are always covered. Lately I've realised my big toe nails have gone black and are falling off - this lead to a week of blind panic as I tried to get close enough to them to see what the hell was going on. Fortunately I can now see that I have new nails growing underneath so balance has been restored in my little world until the next drama.

If you are wanting to strengthen your nails Arna - or anyone else - try the Opi products. Their Nail Envy, and Avoplex oil are excellent, and if you use them regularly, you will see a big difference.....Ange.0

My fingernails Nina
are probably the only good thing about me
having said that I am good at wrecking them too
Gardening and washing etc...
I like a good french polish if I can

I had a manicure as a birthday present so my finger nails are looking quite good apart from the one I accidently caught in the hand blender - don't ask!
I could have had a pedicure too but I wouldn't inflict my toenails on anyone. They really are a disaster. My big toes are turning up to the sky & the others are turning inwards. In spite of this they are painted bright shiny pink and I'm going to keep on painting them for as long as I can reach them!
