Hi there

I am having an intra muscular steroid injection on Tues & was wondering if I will be able to drive home afterwards. Apologies if this sounds a ridiculous question but it is the first time I have had one & don't know what to expect!

Thank you x

If there's one thing I've learned from this forum it is.......

We all react differently to medication......

I've had quite a few 'jabs' with steriods, and as yet, never felt any different immediately after it........

    Hiya

The best thing for these jabs is for you to rest as much as poss for as long as poss afterwards.

I am sure you could drive, but I think if you can get a lift I would so you can take it easy.

I think the idea is to give teh steroid a chance to work.

    Love

You'll be able to drive. The shot will be into you bum or thigh.

    Hi Sugar, love the name.

My recent one was in my knee, they insisted I was wheeled back to the car by my OH and could not drive that day. No trouble, as I don't drive now, due to side effects of pills etc.

    Hi Sugarbuttie,

I hope it goes ok and more important works really well for you, some do and some don't unfortunately but always worth a try.

Its got to be the medrone one and they often give it in your bum though I have a few in my neck and the trigger point now are medrone.... Its good stuff :D Cris x

    Hi ~Sugarbuttie

Over this year I have had a few of them. If it is the Depro-Medrone IM, it will be in your bum.

They tell you it wil sting a bit. I have never felt anything. I have always been ok afterwards.

    Hope you get on ok

Hi I hope you soon feel better. I've only had steriod injections into my joints (wrists), which is a bit different, but the first time I felt fine afterwards, although O/H was driving. The next time, I was fine until walking across the car park with my o/h, when I felt very faint and sick. I was OK as I wasn't driving, but 2 different reactions with the same person, although I'm not sure that it was the same drug, just shows how odd reactions can be.

I must add that it only lasted about 5 mins, but it left me feeling unsure of myself.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll be fine.

Hi Sugarbuttie, just to wish your jab goes well tomorrow and has a positive affect for you.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Ah then we have time to get out of Toni's pocket and leap into yours. Good luck flower and I have to say the pain doctor ow uses medrone instead of cortisone in my neck and trigger points and after a few days I get more energy so fingers crossed you will really reap some benefits. Cris x

    Hope it went well.
The other reason I am replying is that I like your name.
I think it is the posh spelling. Where I come from it would
    end in a "y."

Hi there - an older lady I used to work with called everyone "My little sugarbuttie" as a term of affection & it just stuck with me!

It used to make me smile ....still does!

    Hi there

Just to let you know that I had my injection at 4pm. It was in the backside as most of you predicted & was a depo-medrone. Top marks!

The nurse was lovely & answered all my Qs. She said it would take about 24 hours to take effect so we will see.....

I feel a lot better after talking to the nurse. After reading posts on this site, I asked her if there was a rheumatology helpline number. She promptly gave me a card with her & her colleagues name & number on it. So thanks Forum - I would not have ever thought to ask this had I not been on here.

My own answer to my original question is that ... YES... I was more than capable of driving home!

So thank you all for your advice & reassurances. I knew what to expect. I now live in hope that I will see a difference tomorrow.

    Cheers xx
