Hi
I've recently found out I have RA and started my medication last night, have been dreading taking it because of all the post I have read stating it could make me feel sick as well as the doctor telling me this as well, I hate being unwell at the best of times never mind taking something weekly which is going to make me feel this way.
Any had a good tea last night, new potatoes mince and peas and down the hatch...............................so far so good.
Only things I can say are I feel like a warm sensation now and again and the throbbing I had in my ankle has gone already....not so sure if that is the mtx or the tens machine I used last night for the first time.
Thought I would just post this for other first timers worried about taking medication.

Hello Bev
As I mentioned yesterday I was going to start on the MTX last night as well but took the easy option and put off till next week as we are wetting the head of my new grandaughter this Saturday!
I am so glad to hear it has gone OK so far and long may it continue. Hope it's the same for me next week.

Hi - glad it seems to be working for you! I think at the end of the day, its better to know about what could and then you may be prepared for the worst!! but not everyone gets a lot of symptoms, only a few i think get the worst of it!!!

Hi Bev,
Some people get good results very quickly, I did, it sounds as though you could be one too. Fingers crossed.

Hi Bev, I took my first dose (of Mtx) last Saturday, it made me feel very tired and I just kept falling asleep all the time. Has anyone else had this?.
Thanks, Brenda0 -

Hi Brenda
it can make you tired - takes the body a while to get use to it. when did you take it? I do mine in the evenings, after a big tea, so if there are any side effects, i can hopefully sleep them off!!!
let us know how this weeks lot goes!!

Hi think I started the week before you, would be great to know how you are getting on? I am very new to this. I am on 15mg of MTX a week and 10mg of pred a day, I am not in any pain just aching the hospital and docs that have been treating me have been very good. how are you feeling? I constantly feel tired but cannot always sleep find I fall asleep very easy but can't stay asleep. Having weekly blood checks must be okay as no-one has been in touch. Junex0

Hi,
My Rhummy wants me to go on MTX, but my GP wants me to seriously think about it as me and my wife are under the fertility clinic at the moment.
Im also really worried about the side effects. dont like the idea of feeling sick, and the research i did on the internet just scared me even more.... :?
Those of you that are on MTX when you started taking the tablets were you working or on sick?
Regards

Hi, I'm working full time, just took my third dose tonight. The only real side effect I've had is tiredness, slept a lot the last two weekends. I reckon if I take it Friday night, then I'll be OK for work on Monday, so far so good. Hope it goes well for you. Best wishes, Brenda xx0

Hi i was and still am working full time on 20mg of mtx no side effects so far and never felt better, you wont be able too take mtx if your trying for a baby as it can cause serious problems for developing foetus and your rheumatologist will ask you this before your put on them0 -
Hi Mark
Methotrexate is a very good drug (I am on it and I am a big fan) and not everyone gets the side effects, but my understanding is that people who are trying for a baby should not be on it (man or woman).
I think there have been some other threads about this very issue - if you try the 'search' button you might find them.
The 'Helpline' would also be able to give you some advice about pregnancy and methotrexate.
Best wishes

Hello there.
I was working when I started mtx. I took it on a Saturday night as I was worried about how I might feel the next day. However I guess I have been lucky and I've slowly changed it so I now take it on a Monday. This means that I can now have one of the few drinks I have a week on a Saturday, as I don't have alcohol on the same day I take the mtx. I started off tee total but as the blood tests have come back ok I've changed my habits a bit!
However if you are trying for a baby I really think you should think twice about it,I'm not sure about men but all the literature says a woman should not get pregnant whilst on it.
