Really glad to hear you are seeing some improvement, nice to hear good news for a change. One day at a time when you are ready them crutches will be gone.

    Hi Berty :D

So pleased to see a positive posting from you regarding the much more successful visit to see your physio than the last one and his words of encouragement. Makes all the difference, doesn't it?

Keep up the good work. I started off taking both and then one of the crutches with me when out, to be on the safe side. We need to gain confidence so have them with you until you feel more at ease with it all.

    Luv

    Hi Berty,

what a relief. Last time so different to this time.

    I'm glad it went well.

With the go ahead to give up the crutches it is now up to you, to do so at your pace - that is good. Maybe potter around in the kitchen with just one crutch (keep the one on the opposite side to the op leg) - the kitchen is a good place to start as there are lots of work surfaces to hold on to if necessary. Only do it when you aren't tired. Bit by bit, early days.

    Take care,

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi bertyboy

Some good news at last! Did you ask to see your xrays? I also had to give up my crutches - I started by giving up one and then the other. With using the wheelchair and crutches it took a couple of weeks to establish my balance and I haven't used them for a long time. I keep a walking stick in the car as it helps me get in and out (I also have to have the other knee done).

    Well done!!

Hi, I am very glad that you are making progress. The trouble with physio is it takes a while to do any good and sometimes, for the first few weeks it can feel worse, as the muscles get stronger.

I think giving up giving up your crutches, which have helped you for such along time, is quite a big thing to do. I remember having stiches taken out and feeling that although I really wanted to get rid of them, I was frightened to move for quite a while, until I had to go to the loo!!!

I really hope that you continue to make good progress and get to enjoy the summer!

    Hi Berty

Well I am releived to hear this apt was so much better.

    Dont like rough handling

Maybe you can try without them just short distances and get someone to carry them while you build up your strength/confidence??

    Love
