coughing linked to meds?

Hello
These past couple of weeks I seem to have developed an irratating cough it doesn't last long and I haven't had a cold. I'm blaming it on my medication. I'm on tramadol, diclofenac, amytriptiline, and other meds for high blood pressure. I've been on some new high blood pressure tablets for a month and the only side effect I've noticed is that I get extremely hot.
Has anyone else experience this?

I have had a cough lasting for nearly nine months, after a bout of cold, about three times now, complained at the surgery and got nowhere, whilst at the hosp for something else, I sat near the chest clinic area and a nurse commented after listening to me cough, that it sounded like I was allergic to something, a few weeks later and it was gone, no rhyme no reason.

Hi everyone
Thanks so much for your replies. I went to see my GP today and she reckons one of my BP tablets is causing the cough (Rampiril). One of the other tablets for my BP is causing me to blush, perspire and it makes my ankles swell too - Felopidine. The good news is that my BP has gone down considerably for the first time in 3.5 years. I'm going to persevere for another month and if these hot episodes continue they're going to try me on something else.

Hi Sharmaine,
Sorry I missed your post  I am glad you went to the gp and so hope it stops effecting you so badly.... a month is a long time for something already effecting you.
I am lucky I have low bp (though one arm is sky high but its down to compression etc from the oa and pa) but the mtx has given me a bit of a dry cough and I have a cold I can't shift out from..... Really hope it gets easier for you. ((( ))) Cris x0 -

Sorry to hear about the cough. It's the ramipril for sure. Thing is it won't get better as some side effects do, I would change for another, if anything the cough gets worse.
Good luck

Sharmaine, I was just about to say what your GP has already said, usually tablets to control high blood pressure can cause an irritating dry cough/tickle. I have had it before and a change in meds usually does the trick. Amitryp gives you a very dry mouth sometimes, which can also lead to coughing.
We take all these pills to help and relieve one thing and end up taking even more to combat the side effects, it goes on ad infinitum.............

I find my amitriptyline and metformin for my diabetes both give me an awlful dry mouth I always carry spray to help this , it also makes me so dry that I cough a lot.
my bp medication is beta blocker Atenalol and enlarnapril after my bp and pulse went sky high it was changed to these, and along with me going through the menopause after a hysetrectomy last year plus the hot weather I am melting but the coughing is laways worse at night when I lie down, chest x rays showed no problems so I put up with it, with a general honey and lemon medicine to sooth my dry throat and the spray it all helps0 -
Hi again Sharmaine
The dry mouth spray is Glandosane, you can buy it over the counter, cheaper than a prescription charge. Biotene mouthwash is also good for dry mouth etc. xx BubblesXX Aidan (still known as Bubbles).0 -
I would definitely say it is the ramipril as a have the same, my GP prescribes codeine for me and that works really quickly. Have enough problems without having this irritating cough as well. Perhaps worth mentioning to your doc?0

Hi Chris
My BP has been outrageously high for about 3 years ....ever since I went on diclofenac!!! It's good that it's down and I'll see how I cope with these hot episodes (this hot weather makes it worse).
The cough is annoying especially at night! I hope your cold gets better soon. Take care.

Hi Bubbles
I'm also on amitryptiline and it does give you a dry mouth. At least I know why I've been coughing! I agree about these meds and their side effects!!!!

Hi Bertyboy
I don't have that much dairy products and this cough is weird - I haven't had a cold or anything. GP says its Rampiril. What a nuisance.
