Hi Everyone,

I went to my GP today to give him an update on Tuesday's rheumy appointment. We discussed everything that I had been told and he has re-assured me greatly. He believes that the OA and the other problems with both hips are contributing to overall problems. And although there is no sign of inflammatory arthritis or auto immune disorder he thiks that I do have something like that going on in my body. Although not clinically traceable, he said in a normal healthy person they wouldn't notice but because of my other conditions it drags me down.

As he said under no circumstances should I think it's all in my head.

He also reckons that I also have an impingement in my shoulder, he is going to give me a steroid jab to see if it helps while we are waiting for the xrays.

Thanks to everyone for their kind messages on my other thread, I feel so much better about things now.

Anne x

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Hi Anne, good to hear that you have a great GP, who takes the time to explain things. I think it is best to know what is going on. My rheummy always sends a copy of the letter to the GP, to me, so I can see what is happening. Not always what you want to hear, but at least you know where you stand.

Hope the injection works for you, take care XXX Bubbles.

    hi Anne,
like you my Dr is helpful which helps enormously, my blood tests did not show up any proof yet my 16 plus x rays show I'm riddled with it they said it could be zero negative arthritis,!!!
as I have numerous health problems arthritis is just one part of it despite it making me disabled with so many joints affected, a scan I ahd done a few weeks agoi to help with my total wrist op I'm waiting for the Dr doing it said my wrsit is not OA but a much worse type shes going to let my surgeon know about her findings ?????? my OA is getting bad fast I have so many bad joints which are made worse by fast overgrowing boney parts ???? my rhumatologist is very good at explaining it which helps so much good luck, :)

    Thanks everyone,

I am really fortunate to have a good GP and he has pushed to get me the treatment I need. Although the Rheumy consultant was very nice I did leave thinking, I was an unfit, depressed, pill popper. My GP has reassured me I am not & got quite annoyed by people telling me I shouldn't be taking the strong painkillers (quotes such a they are morpine you know). He said that they have no idea what like pain is & I need them.

Keeping an open mind about the steroid jab as I know it can have mixed results & hope the xrays shed some light on it.

One question though, do you think I should take the rest of the day off work after the jag? I work in IT so it's sitting at a desk on a computer all day.

    Thanks again.

Hi Anne....the more I hear about your GP...the more I like him! not many like him that's for sure.

I'm always told to 'rest' for 24- 48 hrs after a steroid injection (both for IM or single joint injections) and if it's a joint injection not to use the joint at all during that time....hope that helps!
