    Hi Pols,

is this to do with home life or work related?

Either way they will look at what and how you do various activities and make suggestions of equipment which will help. I've only had the home based assessment and the OT ordered and provided the equipment. In the workplace I'm not sure how/where the equipment comes from and I believe funding is partly from a grant and partly funded by the workplace ...

So it is worth thinking of things you struggle to do and then you can bring this to the attention of the OT for them to make suggestions.

Should be a useful experience and the outcome should make life easier.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Pols

I guess it will be toi do with mobility at home and how you can manage things like cooking or bathing....

make sure you tell them as it is although they should have the expertise to elicit the info they need.

They are usually really nice and are 'on your side'.

If Bigger jobs are needed like stairlifts etc - they might need to means test yo for the cost, but as I said they are ally not foe.

    Good luck

    Love

Thanks again for all the help. A really nice lady came out, she is getting me a workstation(?) for the kitchen to make chopping etc easier and a stool/chair to do the ironing and cooking (the kids will be all over this - i can see it now, there'll be fights and tears, lol  )

She offered me a bathrail but I'm not desperate for one and we've not long had the bathroom re-tiled so don't really fancy the idea of that on the wall just yet (hubby will just get called in if I get stuck...)

Unfortunatley, she has had loads of cutbacks due to NHS funding and can't give out the equipment for free anymore, well they can only give the above I mention, she seemed pretty frustrated with this and felt she couldn't do her job properly by just leaving a catalogue with everything in it. It's such a shame.

She has also referred me to a hand specialist who will make me plastic mould splints for my hands to sleep in to keep them as straight as poss, so all in all a pretty good appointment.

glad you've got some help pols .... especially about the hand therapist ... I have the resting splints and they have really helped .... though hubby is fed up of getting clonked by me  :lol::lol:

hope you get on well with the perching stool .... I wasn't convinced but said I'd give it a go, now I wouldn't part with it :lol::lol:

    good luck!

    Hi Pols,

glad it went ok but the cut back issues are terrible aren't they? I hope you get on ok with your stool and the workstation sounds like a good idea as well. Please let us know if it all helps. Cris x

hi pols...so glad your appointment went well and that you will get some useful aids at home....the kids will play about with then that's for sure! my grandsons regularly 'play' with my 'lifting stick' and the dressing stick too and do squabble about who can climb onto the perching stool first. :D

seems that what you get from OT varies but you might find that if you attend hand therapy they will also give you other things to help.

the resting splints are good..take a bit of getting used to but well worth the effort! also you might want to get some tubi grip or similar to wear under the splint as you do get 'sweaty' with the plastic directly on the skin.
