Hi Joan
I haven't a clue what he meant by his comment about bones and muscles  but glad they are at least getting to grips with where your pain is coming from.
hope you can get the xrays soon and see someone about your back. ......horse and feet aren't a good combination are they :!:
hope in other ways you are ok and say hi to Sue.x

Hi Joan
I am interested in your back pain as your hip pain is similar to my burstitis. do let me know how you get on.
Very wise to get the foot xrayed - who knows what is going on in there eh?
Didn't get the bones bit either :?

Hi Joan
Not heard that one before, I do know you need to strengthen your muscles to help the bones along, I hope they can help with the pain, at least you are getting something done.

Hi Joan,
a pity the ortho didn't elaborate on his explanation. If as he says, your muscles aren't working hard enough - then he perhaps means they are weak and need strengthening. Strong muscles protect and help preserve joints ... using them inefficiently/having weak muscles puts more strain on joints. Do you/have you / are you going to have physio - as this would be a good place to start.
Trigger point therapy is all about referred pain - some remedial/sports masseurs treat trigger points, so do some physios and pain clinics - you can also self treat them yourself and this can be a very effective way of dealing with stubborn referred pain. Let me know if you would like a very good book title on this.
Hopefully the x rays will indicate the way forward to help your poor feet.

Bones have to take all the weight of the body parts and keep it, (in my case), roughly in shape. Muscles move individual joints and provide support to them. So, while you need bones AND muscles, if I hit you over the head with a thigh bone it would really hurt. If I hit you with a thigh muscle you would most likely hit me back.
So, bones are always load-bearing, while muscles are not always in use and can relax. As he says, bones have to be stronger. Stand up holding a cup of coffee or tea and think about all the bones, including the legs, that take the weight of the cup. Now think of how many muscles are actually in use.
Answers on a postcard addressed to yourself, please.

Exactly! I am sure they either do it on purpose or never give it a thought that we may not understand what they mean. Sometimes we are so flabbergasted by what they say we do not ask them what they mean and we should.
