Hi All ,
Hope you didnt get to squished in my pocket! thankyou for coming along. :D

I actually had over half an hour with Dr today, However he did laugh that the tablets put me in hospital!! :x

Anyway blood results are all clear, x-rays only show 'wear and tear' in lower spine. No where else apparantly :? but it is OA (as i was told 7 yrs ago ) and as i have hypermobility in my arms and hands that is why i have pain there! As for the rest of my symptoms (which i really had self diagnosed before hand)
is fibromyalgia. He muttered something about spondolosis as i have neck crunching and the lower back pain.

He offered me different drugs, only as i asked what the side effects were and what alternative medication there was as i dont really do drugs. He asked me about glucosamine, i have tried it before so he reckons i could try it again for a couple of months if no different then forget it!
So will carry on seeing the physio and ask her about accupuncture he said to ask her , dont really fancy this as its needles, anyone else tried it? Pain clinic was offered so i am going for that! Any advice/ info on this i would be grateful please.

Steroid injection in hands :? Anyone had these? i said i would also think about this! He said he would still see me as planned in 3 to 4 months and write a report to my GP.

So i now know results i have a few options and i have appointments to look forward to
You do have to fight for it though dont you ?

Best wishes to everyone and for more sunshine and pain free days!

Rose x

    Well done you Rose!!

sounds very productive. You asked what you wanted to ask - got answers and a plan too  GREAT :D

I tried acupunture and I have a needle phobia (was ok with it) so - worth a try and pain clinics often think of things other medics don't.

Did you have the jab in your hand or are you thinking about it?

So am I right OA cervical spond fibro and hypermobility???

    Phew!

    that's enough for anyone

Bet you are worn out and hoping you are feeling ok with it all.

    Love

Hi Rose. I had acupuncture a few years ago and it really helped me. I know the thought of needles tends to put you off, but you are lying on the couch, eyes closed, and it only takes a few minutes to put the needles in. I even had one on the top of my head. They then leave you to just relax and believe me several times she came back and had to wake me up. I dont know if it was the acupuncture or the relaxation but either way it helped and I would do it again tomorrow given the chance. You should seriously consider it, it does not work for everyone, but when it works you will be really grateful.
    Regards
    Trisha

Hi Rose, Now youve got your DX confirmed you can move forward & have been given some good options.
I am under the pain clinic (took me ages to get there though) I have had my meds reviewed & changed to better ones. Had Acupuncture but it wasnt for me. Steroid injections into both knees & right thumb helped a little, but others have been helped greatly by them.
Im now waiting to see consultant to go through everything ive had done, then im due to have injections into neck under x ray & boy i need them. Ive waited over 10months for this as i had to try all the other treatments first, bit unfair but ive tried them.

I hope you find something out of your options that helps.
Good luck & let us know how you get on.

Hi Rose, sounds like you had a productive appointment, a detailed diagnosis and options to try for treatment - I'd try them all, whilst they are on offer and work out which ones work for you... keep us posted!! Sounds like quite a day.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi
I had steriod injections in my hand, it was in my tendons cos my fingers were not moving much and swollen and painfull.
it worked very well for over a year, will probably need more injections soon and i like Toni am a needle phobe but would have the injections again.
it did make things more differcult for a few days, as fingers got a bit more swollen but i felt the benifits after about 3 days i think it was.
good luck if you have the jabs
    best wishes

    Hi Debs,

Thankyou for your reply. What do they do at the pain clinic?
The steroid inj you had in your R thumb was it in the base? did it give you much pain relief? my hands give me agony! well its the base of thumb into wrist and now the rest of my fingers are hurting too  Makes me feel like chopping them off at the elbows but they hurt aswell so meh!
When you say the accupuncture wasnt for you was it because it didnt work or made you feel worse or you just didnt like it? Sorry for all the questions but i want to find all the ins and out if you get me.

    Hi Toni,

How many sessions of acc did you have? Not had the jab in me hands yet i'm thinking about it and finding out what i can first i'm a coward when it comes to needles

Yup thats about it unless arthur wants to throw another one at me!
Atleast now we know why i feel so rubbish (thats putting it mildly)!
Still got some sense of humour left so thats ok, its a good job as when DR was laughing, cos the tablets he gave me put me in hospital i could have killed him :x :x :x

Rose, hi, I am having accupuncture and accupressure sessions at the moment. So far i have had 3. I was so fed up with the meds not working I decided to try it. I find it very relaxing, after the first one I felt a little light headed for some reason!! I have my fourth one tomorrow so will keep you updated. If its offered on NHS I would def go for it. My sessions are reasonably priced, but if I could get it free I would lol!! Havent had jabs except in bum, and they dont seem to work for me. No pain clinic offers so far. Jabs in hands, dont know anything about, but my hands kill me by the end of the day with the little ones!! Good luck, take care Jay x

Hi Rose, you ask away luv.
When i first went to pain clinic they did the trigger point test & dx fibro, i already had the OA plus others dxd.
They did a complete review of my meds then put together a plan for treatment. Meds, treaments plus CBT etc.
Id had already had the steriod injections & they helped a little but at the time i was going through a cronic pain flare up & nothing was helping.
The one into my thumb was the base as its deforming there too.
I was booked in for 5wks of acupuncture, i had the 2nd session & she hit a nerve which made me jump so i jarred my shoulder, so i cancelled the rest of the appointments as it wasnt getting better at the time. Dont let that put you off as it doesnt happen often i must be a bit of a misfit.
Pain clinic is the best way forward if you can get there, they specialise in treatments that gps & rhymys dont use. I would say if youve been offered it then take it as its the best treatment your going to get especially with the Fibro.
I hope you can get some treatment from them & they are so nice, they take time to listen to you & dont rush you.
Im waiting to see my consultant again for my next stage & check up.

    Hi Debs,

Thankyou so much for telling me , what is CBT? Ha! you a misfit i think that must be me!! The arcoxia gave me chest pains and an admission to the hospital , never been in before other than to have children. So it prob would happen to me

At the pain clinic is it a physichatrist that you see? or some sort of physc person ?
I think because i dont do drugs and dont take anything , just been suffering, and i cant stand it anymore so i was asking what alternatives there were , that got that suggested . Got nothing to lose have i so i said i would see what they have to offer, just wondered what they actually do.

    Hi Rose,

I had acupuncture a long time ago and it was quite effective but as I got worse so it worked less.

The joint jabs have had a lot of them and all work to varying degrees. I get some every 8-10 weeks now and again they help but are not as effective as they used to be. The pain clinic also do a temp de-nervng every so often, that helps as well. Tablets I take quite a few but all are needed now a days I guess.

Hope it will all come together for you and help you and..... got any more choc cake  Cris x

    Hi Rose

I had a course of six Rose accupuncture and the needles dont really seem to puncture the skin.

I had to pay for mine back in those days  I kept my eyes shut anyway as I am needle phobe.

You know I would try the jab in hand if you can - I will come and stand in the way so you cant see

    Love

Hi Rose, I had acupuncture a few years ago for whiplash. I found I could not relax although I cannot say it hurt or anything. I just wanted it to be over :? It is always worth a try as some people find it works for them.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say. :)

    Hi Rose :D

You're docs have certainly given you a lot to think about !

I was a complete sceptic about acupuncture until the nhs physio I was attending suggested I try it. I'd been attending physio for several weeks for hip bursitis, but with no improvement.
As the physio was also a trained acupuncturist she asked if I'd be willing to try it....and with nothing to lose I agreed!

I did find some of the needles 'uncomfortable' (not painful) but was told that it was because they were positioned where the source of the ' trouble' was located. I had 8 sessions and it definitely helped.....and I would have acupuncture again if it was suggested.

It might be worth you considering?

I've also had lots of steroid joint injections over the years in my elbows, wrists and knees ...and also intramuscular (systemic) steroid injections. some have worked better than others.

we are all so different...so what works for one doesn't necessarily work for the next person. we all have to try and see what works best for us individually.

    good luck!

    Hi Rose,

Got any more cake  The jabs have a bit (or lot of) local in them so once that's in they don't hurt at all. The starting point would depend really but they are not too bad.

I have had a few in several joints and over all they are normally good and at worst they have done a slight improvement. I think the neck and back ones are a bit more painful to have but they are also not too bad. For the big neck and lumber ones they use sedative now so that's ok.

Try the acupuncture till they stopped doing it on me it worked quite well and wasn't too sore either. Let us know please? Cris x
