Getting my socks on solution

Hi, I'm a newbie here and I've had hip oa for about 18 months.
The first problem I encountered was putting my socks on as I can no longer reach my toes although I can get to my ankles. I can now get my socks on with the aid of an old plastic milk carton ( rounded corner square type in this case ). I used the middle 3 inches or so and also cut in vertically so it can overlap and make a cone shape. I then put my sock over an end, taking it half way up whilst opening up the other to take my toes.
I then put this on the floor and wiggle my foot in and forward until the sock is a few inches on my foot. I can then just about reach down, get the plastic out and pull up my sock completely!
I hope this post helps anybody else with the same predicament.

    Hi

Last year I purchased a mobility aid to help me get my socks on but it was useless. I'm pleased to hear that you've found a 'recyclable'
solution. Very clever of you! You'll have to market it. I have OA in knees (first TKR done in Feb).

My OH had to put my socks on before he went off to work. I also bought bed socks a couple of sizes too big and with my grabber managed to wiggle my foot into them if OH forgot. I used to break out in a sweat if I had to put my own socks and shoes on!!! Things are a bit better now that I've had one TKR.

The things we have to do just to get dressed!!!!

    Hi Jahwobbler,

    welcome to the forum.

You sound very ingenious - a very necessary quality for all arther sufferers!

You should patent your invention and live off the proceeds!!

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.
