Hi all, well still happy abot getting the high rate dla but all this hazzle about getting adaptions to the car is doing my head in , this dealer seems to be rushing me,he wants me to get the push/pull/brake /acceltor, but the assessment centre told me to get this radial trigger which you push to accel, and pull to brake , rang to see what it was called and the lady said it down on the form just hand controls , now the dealer is all for just gettin the push and pull mechaional hand controls . I told the dealer I tried the push and pull and was in pain the man at the centre said oh you will be a danger on the road if you have that pain,

also this radial acceltor is £1,100.00 even through motabilty, its a night mare

I'd go back to the dealer and ask for some sort of retest with special controls Mike, it's too late If you get the car and cant manage the controls.

It's your choice don't let him/them push you on it, get it right for you not them, he/they are probably making a bit more cash if you go for the one he/they want you to take, as I said it's you who will be driving so make the best choice for YOU!..

    Hope this helps!

    Mike,

Just a couple of thoughts before you choose anything you are going to have for 3 years:

    1. What type of driving license have you applied for, remember if you pass in an automatic you can never drive a manual.
    2. What type of car are you going to learn to drive in?
    3. Will the car have the adaptions?

Maybe before rushing into a car it would be best to take some lessons and see how you get on?

I have to agree with Anne, get some driving lessons under yr belt. There must be instructors that specialise in disability customers. You don't know how you will find driving yet. Am I right in thinking you can't drive yet? What about an automatic? It maywork out cheaper?

Oh I chose my new car, Nissan qashqai in red too!! Roll on October! Janie

hI, WHEN i WAS AT THE ASSessment centre 2008 they said I needed a steering ball , automatic transmission, and a Radial acceltor ( its awee swicth a be at the side of the steering wheel and you push it to go accel and pull back to work the brakes very easy to work compared to the push and pull lever.

I was allowed to drive on the centres ground and found it so easy to use .

My driving instuctor wants to wait until I have my car adapted before starting any driving lessons as he does not have the adaption I need

I think yu have to get the exact right part Mike. Can you get it in writing from the test centre place and give it to them or if necessary threaten to go somewhere else??

Can you print off the adaptation prices from the motability website & the stupid man at the dealer? If he persists with his attitude, then report him to motability. He has no right saying these things to you about being fit to drive. Is there another vauxhall dealer nearby? Could be far though I know.
Let us know how you get on

i WAS FED UP so, I rang the assessment centre up and demand that I speak to the one that did the assessment with me , result they said he will phone me when he gets in , 2 hours later he called to say that it was Radial hand controls that I need but that they are very very dear, he said if you want we will call and collect you at your door and a lesson will be given in A micro car with push and pull lever if I still cant use them , then he will bring the car with the adaption that I need .

So phoned the car room motability sales man up and told him to hold the order until I get the right adaption, he said ok mabye thats the best thing . but I told him once I have the right adaption I want the car ordered , he said ok I will wait to hear from you .
the moment I find out that I can order the car I will let you all know

    Thanks everyone

Glad you sorted it out Mike. As everyone so rightly said on here, you are the customer. They shouldn't rush you into signing anything, specially as you haven't passed your test and are in no particular hurry as yet.
