Hi everyone,

On the BBC website, there is an article that shows alcohol really does reduce the pain and swelling of RA. Woo hoo, I'm off now to get bladdered!!

No,really it is suggested to keep under 10 units a week due to methotrexate due the liver.

I also suggest that it helps to reduce stress levels as well...

Janie

Hi Janie, why don't you post the link?

Why don't you ask your GP if you can have some on prescription!!!:lol::lol:

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

You could always volunteer for further studies - especially if they provide the alcohol!!

I read it in the paper today whilst waiting for the meth injection. Apparently different types of alcohol may also be a factor - I know that a drop of red wine is supposed to be good for the heart, so I wonder what will be recommended for us? I'll trial anything apart from spirits. DD

    sounds good!

DD- I don't drink red wine very often, husband doesn't like it, but when I do it triggers a flare up for me! Not sure if it is a particular grape as haven't investigated that much (that's the only trigger I have found, oh and the cold/wet weather)

I'm up for testing the research anyone else LOL

Thamks Janine, I take MTX and sulfasalazine and whilst just on the MTX if I drank any alcohol I would be Ill but when they added Sulfa, when I had a couple of pints I was ok. I used to be in the armed forces and would consume alot of booze daily. I knew that this was bad for me but as you know soldiers like a drink. When I was 1st diagnosed with RA then got the dreaded MTX I stoppped drinking all together. I had a heart attack a few weeks ago so now I just take it easy.
