I'm sorry if this has already been answered earlier on!

I'm currently on MTX (20mg) and Sulphasalzine (2g) for RA! We already have 2 daughters (4 year old and 2 year old), but are planning our next baby. I started on the MTX just after having my 2nd daughter. The hospital I was under at the time told me I needed to come off the MTX for 6 months before trying for another baby. We moved house a few months ago and I'm under a new hospital, and they have said I only need to come off it 3 months.

I obviously know the risks of falling pregnant while on the MTX, and most definately would not want that to happen.

Just wondered if anyone had been in a similar situation, and also was there any problems in getting pregnant after being on the MTX!

Thanks

    Hi Shell

This is discussed fairly often on the forums as it is obvioulsy a real concern for women who want to conceive.

I know most continue on something like a small maintemace does of pred while pregenant and trying to conceive as lots of oter meds might be harmful :(

If you ahve time you can try a search on here and look for 'old' threads on the subject.

Having said that - you have every right to wait 6 months if you choose to be cautious dont you?

Hopefully some of the other guys who have been through this will come on soon and give you better advice.

    Love

    Toni xx

    hi
yes this has come up a few times and there is a lot of chat on the subject so i suggest you do a bit of searching for old threads
3months is the minimum, 6months is better and preferable to ensure its out of your system
I personally was starting to give up the will to keep going after 3mths so we decided to start trying...it actually took us over 3mths to conceive so I was actually clear of the 6mth mark anyway.
TBH you need your dr.'s support and whatever you feel comfortable with....its a hard enough journey without beating yourself up about the details.
Have a read and if you have any questions or just want to chat please give me a shout via messages and i'll do my best to help

    Thanks for the replies!

I spoke to the hospital on monday, and they said that it is better to wait 6 months to make sure it is completely out of my system. So we're gonna try early next year. In the meantime, i've to contact the hospital if I experience any bad flare ups!
