A hug to cheer you up

Hi
There are several people on the site who have been very unwell and having a tough time recently, so I thought I would send you all a big hug to cheer you up ( too many names to mention, but you know who you are )
Hugs Can Cheer You Up Poem
It's wondrous what a hug can do,
A hug can cheer you when you're blue.
A hug can say, "I love you so.",
Or, "How I hate to see you go."
A hug is, "Welcome back again."
This Hug Is Meant For You
A hug can soothe a small child's pain,
And bring a rainbow after rain.
The hug! There's just no doubt about it,
We scarcely could survive without it.
A hug delights and warms and charms,
It must be why God gave us arms.
Kittens crave them. Puppies love them.
Heads of state are not above them.
A hug can break the language barrier,
And make the dullest day seem merrier.
No need to fret about the store of them,
The more you give, the more there are of them.
So stretch those arms without delay
And give someone a hug today.
Love from Joan

Hi Toni, BCham, and DD. I'm glad that you liked the poem, and if I ever met you, I would give you all a big hug I do like to hug people because it makes me feel happy, and hopefully them too.
BCham, I think you should try hugging that man at the Post Office sometime. The grumpiest people are probably the ones most in need, and I wouldn't let a bit of stubble stand in my way :!:
DD, you were one of the people I had in mind when I posted the poem because I know that you have been feeling very unwell recently. I do hope you are a bit better now.
Here's three extra hugs, one for each of you:

I`ve always been a hugger - Hugger! - but many years ago, at the start of my counselling training, I was put in my place, very publicly, by a snotty Professor, who told me that hugs had no place in the counselling process.
He was right of course, in that not all people in distress want to be hugged, and it is considered unprofessional to do so. However, with a lot more experience under my belt now, I have to admit to being "unprofessional" on occasion, usually at my clients request.
As for me, I`ll take as many as you have to give Joan. Bring em on!........Ange0 -
Hello Joan.
i will give you a hug.

Hi Ange, and here's a big hug for you
Yes, I agree that not all people want to be hugged, so you have to judge it carefully so as not to offend, especially as a professional person. When I was teaching, it came as second nature to me to hug any child who was in distress, but these days teachers are advised not to have any physical contact with the children in their care. I find that very sad.0 -
Joan's always hugging my girls - and they hug her more than they hug me! I distinctly remember you and your hubby coming for dinner, Joan, and when the girls went to bed, they kissed you goodnight and not me!
But a hug is good medicine all round, IMHO. Can't beat tiny arms going round your neck and hot breath on your cheek from a little one
Nx
PS - feeling very nostalgic now for some reason - my girls are growing up and don't do this much anymore!0 -
I get tiny arms and hot breath all the time - from The Husband who is 5'3". I dwarf him: think Andy Capp and Flo. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

You're so funny, DD!

Hi Bcham
You are so right about the endorphins, and also stroking animals.
The great thing about a good hug is that it requires very little energy, doesn't pollute the environment, costs nothing, is silent, doesn't hurt in any way and still leaves you happy, content, and usually ready for more. You can be addicted to it without hurting yourself or others in any way.
But I know what you mean about the man in the post office. Best give it a miss with him :!: :shock:0 -

Hi Joan, and a big hug for you too
Thanks for the PM about Joe McElderry. I wouldn't mind hugging him any day :!: ( Gay or straight, it matters not a jot :!: )0 -

Thanks for the hug, DD.
I love the image this conjures up, and I shall think of you as Flo from now on0 -
Hi Nina, and a big hug to you, Sunny, and the girls
PS - feeling very nostalgic now for some reason - my girls are growing up and don't do this much anymore!
I wouldn't worry about this. I found that my children went through a phase of not wanting to hug. It's a normal part of growing up, but they will come back to it later. Now I get massive bear-hugs, from my son in particular.0 -
