Hi all, hope everyone is doing ok today  I havent been on the forum as much lately, due to going back to work for the first time in nearly 5 YEARS  Yes , Im pretty knackered ha, so Im up early on my day off, to fit all my jobs in.

Its 1 year exactly tomorrow that I had my THR, and its given me back at least 15 years in the quality of my life. I thought having the op would mean my life as I knew it would be over, in fact it had just begun again! I go swimming at least 3 times a week, and I highly recommend that as a major factor in my recovery. That and a good surgeon

Apart from a little blip earlier this year, Ive been pain free for a year now, I still wake up expecting to have the awful pain ; takes a bit of getting used to, being pain free. Ive recently gone back to work full time, and been discharged from the hospital until 2014 so good news all round this year.

I hope this helps anyone thinking of having a THR; my other advice is to do your research; I went and got a second opinion from Sheffield Northern General rather than my local hospital, and Im so glad and grateful i did; meant more travelling, but the end result was worth it. Hope that helps jk

I haven't had a THR but I'm sure your upbeat account of how having this op has so improved your life will be really helpful for others who have that op ahead of them.

hope you aren't going to be spending the whole day doing housework :?

nice to see you posting.

    Hi JK

I am so pleased to read your 12 month update on your THR. I remember reading last year about you having it done. It's great that you have, indeed, 'got your life back.'

I am nearly 13 weeks post-op THR this week and am doing quite well, but your post has really inspired me to think about how good I will be in 6-12 months time...

    Very best wishes.

    Hi Ikesother,

good to get updates - glad you are doing so well. Bet you are tired being back at work ... as Iris said, don't just spend your day off doing housework. Can your hip do everything you require of it now?

I'm 12 weeks post op - loads better than before the op ... but there are lots of things I still want to be able to do ....

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

My hip had its 1st birthday a couple of weeks ago and like you it has been wonderful. Unfortunately I have pain worsening in my other foot and hip but after they are sorted I hope to be fine.

So pleased you are able to get on with your life and are back at work. I expect it has made you value everything you have and appreciate the small things in life.

    Enjoy!!!
