Hi All

Well just been to doctor this morning and asked about getting a private conultation. Was told by doctor that basically if that was a route that I wished to take had to find consultant i liked and contact his office myself but was best to wait for appointment to come in through for Wrightington which was at last time of checking, 8 weeks waiting for app and went on list 14 July 2010. Anyway she told me to take 8 co-prox a day, max doseage, and gave me a sick note for 8 weeks.
Went into town as had to order anti allergy house/dust mite pillow protectors as had been to immunology clinic at Preston yesterday and told to purchase these in order to help allergies/AIDisedase. Big queue in Boots but got there in end and after leaving house at 10.15, got back at 11.45. Guess what was awaiting me at home? Appointment from Wrightington.....for get this 13 September......Which is good news even though its a while away....My number to wait for doc this morning was number 13 too so i wonder is this an omen???? Just hope time goes quick now...
PS....Sleeping hellish in put-u-up bed and not getting there till 1am due to visitors.....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Barbara

Oh so youre having surgery there...Do you live near there? Im going for second opinion as I live in Kendal so this was next in catchment area of my options....I have never been there before so will have to google it for directions nearer the time.....
I wonder what surgeon you are under if its same as mine...Im not allowed to name him under rules on this here forum.....
I didnt like number 13 before as a tad superstitious but maybe it will swing in my favour this time......Hope so....
Do let me know your story and how you rate Wrightington....Be lovely to know how youre doing.....

    Hi Elaine
My story is , I went to the gym for over 20 years, then some years ago my back began to get stiff, put it down to age, then 2 years ago had bad pain in my knee, and had xrays that showed it was coming from my hip.
My left hip should have been done then really, I went to wrightington, and they where brilliant, but I said I would wait till I really needed it, bad decision, because now my right hip needs doing.
To cut a long story short, I went back this year, and was put on the list, but first I have to lose some weight, this is the first time in my life I have been overweight, due to not being very mobile.
I am getting there, but not being able to go to ht e gym doesn't help.
I live around 10 miles from Wrightington, my brother had his THR there and so have quite a few others that I know, and they all praise it.
They do alot of pioneering work, and specialise in joint replacements.
Sorry for rambling, I really hope it all goes well for you.

    Hi Barbara

Well dont apologise cos I asked cos I was interested in your story. So basically you had been a very active person until you started to get pain in your back, knee and this was all coming from your hip?
I suppose one would wait for the op it you felt you didnt really need it immediately or you had a career or children to look after as that would be more important (of course depending on pain level).
I suppose if i got put on a list they would tell me to lose weight too, but as im not mobile as too stiff would find it hard.....In a way im hoping to get a TKR decision there but i would be frightened too as its a bit away from home and visitors could not visit every day so would be lonely....Suppose im used to being 5 mins away from my local hospital but they refuse to do a TKR on the basis im too young (41)...
I have highish hopes for the Wrightington but know not to get too optimistic as they may refuse me too...hope not....
Thanks for your lovely message and hope whenever you get your THR done all goes well....

still suffering I see with the late nighters and the lumpy bed.

    Hi Elaine,

glad your appointment has come through .... if you are worried about your weight you could spend the next month and a bit leading up to your op trying to lose a bit - not easy but you have incentive!!!

Sorry you are on the lumpy put-you-up mattress - maybe it is time to treat yourself to an upgrade? In the meantime you could put a folded duvet or sleeping bag on top of the mattress to make it a bit more comfortable?

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Speedy

Well im not going to lose the weight at moment for two reasons....1. I am the sort of person who even if i ate a celery stick a day id still gain pounds and 2. Nobody has said yes to my TKR yet....
I do try to lose weight all the time in different ways, food intake, up exercise if can withWell it aint my house so i dont have a say in that, just know am waking up dog tired at moment.............

Hi Elaine - sorry your doc was so negative, but really pleased that you now have a date for your hospital appointment.

And 13 is my favourite number so I have a good feeling about your appointment!
