Depo-medrol injection

Hi everyone,
I wrote a while back to say it was thought I had early RA, well today it has been diagnosed officially by my rheumatologist.
To say I'm gutted is an understatement, especially at 28. I have been through a lot, 14 years with endometriosis, numerous surgeries and a hysterectomy 12 months ago....my joint symptoms have always been put down to the hormone treatments I've been on for the endo and the HRT I'm on now.
Anyway, rheumy gave me a depo-medrol injection in my buttocks today to see if it relieves things, what I wanted to know was how long it takes to start taking effect and how long would those effects last for?
Rheumy has referred me for some physio on my wrists and shoulders and also did x-rays of my hands, feet and shoulders today (my problem areas), so will see what the results of those are...

Hi and welcome,
sorry you have now been given a diagnosis of RA on top of everything else, but at least with a diagnosis you can start treatment and learn to manage the disease.
Can't help with the any info on the jab as I have OA, and have no experience of this.
I'm sure others will be along shortly.
SPeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi
Welcome to the Forums.
Sorry to hear that you have RA. The injection works differently for people. It has worked on some within 2 days. Mine took 4 days to kick in.
It should help the pain making you feel better. Have they given you any other drugs to take?
Well I hope it does work quickly for you

I've had two depos that failed. No difference, no relief. They don't work for everyone but I really hope it works for you. You need something. My fingers are crossed. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi and welcome from me
It is a kick in the teeth to learn so young that you have RA
I started at the age of 25 a few weeks after havig my daughter. I wondered what on earh was wrong with me. My daughter is now 22.
I hope you soon start to feel some benefit of your medication

I really sympathise with you.
I am 33 and have constant chronic hand and wrist pain which is driving me mad.
I had a steroid injection in my thumb knuckle joint exactly a week ago and it was very sore for a couple of days and felt tender and weaker but a week on I have noticed a significant improvement. I have been able to work without a brace and it feels stronger. I don't know how long this will last.
Try to take each day as it comes, keep a sense of humour, however dark and remember that traetments are improving all the time. A positive thing about being young with this is that hopefully we can hang around long enough to try any new treatments that emerge.
Keep the faith, Ralph.0 -
Hi Fairydust
I am so very sorry about the diagnosis.
BUt at least now the only way is UP
The jab in your bum should work within days usually although some take a bit longer (people not the jabs  ) and can last for months if you are lucky
I hope you will be kind to yourself and take the time to get your head round it all - if you want to sound off to us we are here.
I think you have had your share of health probs if it's any consolation at all....probably not
Lets hope things get settled very quickly for you
love
and a hug

Hello, sorry about your diagnosis, it must be a shock and on top of the endometrosis. I had that, until my hystorectomy.
I do hope that the injection works for you, then maybe, you will be able to cope better with the diagnosis, but it will take some time. Hopefully they will soon get your meds sorted and you will start to feel a lot better.

Hi Fairydust. So sorry about your RA diagnosis. I know that it's a shock even if you are sort of expecting it, specially as you have also had so many other health problems to deal with.
The silver lining in this cloud (if you can call it that) is that now you have a diagnosis, you will be able to get started on some proper meds which, hopefully, will give you some relief so that you start to feel better.
Hopefully the Depo-M will work for you soon and will give you some much needed pain relief until the the test results are back and you can get onto a proper treatment regime.
Thinking of you.
Love Tillyx (also diagnosed with RA aged twenty eight).0 -
Hi Fairydust,
I am sorry you have the diagnosis. Its easier to know its likely but when it becomes confirmed it can take a bit of time to get used to it all. Its a horrible thing but with luck the physio will help you.
They use the medrone in my neck and its usually very good. I know normally its a bum job but my neck is fairly inflamed so I have mine into the myelin sheath of the bones. Its a few days to work but it helps quite a bit for me. Hopefully it will for you and once they have the xray results hopefully the Rumo will sort you out a drug routine that will help you. Nice to meet you and take care. Cris x0
