Hello tonesp, hope you have better weather than us today. (Guaranteed, isn't it?) I have no idea how they deal with these things in Spain, how long do you have to wait? What sort of arthritis do you have? OA people tend to get the replacements, and sometimes RAers too. celebrex is a good anti-inflammatory (they took me off it due to cost) so I doubt you can better that. I always took mine in the morning so I wouldn't 'sleep' through the benefit of the reduction in swelling. For pain I have co-codamol 30/500 for daily use and Tramamdol 50mg for night, if required. I am also on humira, methotrexate and oral steroids (all treatments for RA but I have PA, psoritaic arthritis). All yo can do is talk to your doctor to find out what other meds are available. I wish you well. Dreamdaisy
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi
Just want to say a very warm welcome, I do hope you get your hip replacement very soon, there are lots of meds out there, you must go back to your gp and tell them the ones you are on are not working, if it is like in the uk, sometimes you do have to go back quite a few times.
Do they have pain clinics in Spain, if they do get a referral from your gp.
Please let us know how you get on.
    Love

Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you are having problems with finding the right pain killers. I think it takes a while for some people, what suits one person doesn't help another. Makes life complicated doesn't it!

I hope you have your operation soon and find it helps you to feel fine again, after a while. I don't know what the system is in spain, but I hope you don't have too long to wait!

Thanks for all the concern Don't know about pain clinics here I was diagnosed with OA Feb 09 Got my first appointment with a specialist March this year.I was referred to Alicante hospital but since then they have opened a brand new hospital for our area in Elche. So Alicante dropped my case and my GP referred me to the new hospital.I hope it doesn't push me to the back of the queue.Luckily after 7 years here my Spanish is good enough to put up a fight Will keep everyone posted

    Hi Tonesp,

    welcome to the forum.

    Spain, hey - sounds lovely.

I don't know what meds you can get in Spain, but I too have OA and am the better side of a hip op (I had mine a few months ago) - Pre op I took anti-inflammatories (arcoxia), stomach protectors because of anti-inflammatories (omprazole) and pain killers - co-codomol. I tried Tramadol - great for pain relief but didn't like the side effects. Have to say in the last few months - nothing worked. An op was my only option.

    Keep posting.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.
