Tired...me?!

Hi
I only joined the forum yesterday but have used the site as a valuable resource since being diagnosed with RA in 2007.
My meds are still under review as I have moved house and therefore specialists - tried MTX, tried sulfasalazine, now clutching at straws! No matter what I'm taking, I always feel worn out though. Is this normal? Do others feel just as tired when they wake up in the morning as when they went to bed the night before? I do wake up in the night with the pain from my knee, which I suppose doesn't help. Also, does diet REALLY make a difference to the level of fatigue?
I am 28 and work full-time in a pretty stressful role. It'd be really useful to hear how other people cope with the fatigue on a daily basis and also manage to stay in good spirits and lead a full life
Thanks in advance for your support

Hi Ellie.....
ELLLIE!!! wake up
Good to meet you.
I think some meds are supposed to help with fatigue more than others, but I think I doubt it. Likely to be an individual thing and i think dif meds work for dif people.
When things are bad sleeps are a really good idea, but with the aid of an aralm clock (Elna's advice to me early on) so you don't stay there and ruin the night's sleep.
Diet? Not a clue and have no faith in diet myself, but it IS woorth reading up on it. Some guys here have tried different diets.
Good to meet you and hope to see youa round again
Love

Yes, it's normal. It's part and parcel of the arthritis - it tires you out when it is active and it tires you out when it isn't. Don't fight to keep awake - it just worsens everything! I read a post today somewhere from someone - another new member I think - who is a PA to two people but sensibly naps in her car during her lunch break to get some rest. A wise girl. Don't fight it - I can fall asleep anywhere at any time, waiting rooms, surgeries, in the car (when a passenger, I hasten to add) and once or twice in front of the gas stove when cooking: I have to cook sitting down now and it's. . . all too . . . . .tempting . . .to nod . . . .zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi ellie
It is awful when you are so young and feeling tired all the time.
I also was diagnosed with RA at the age of 25 after having my daughter. I used to see other mums rushing about and wondered why i couldn't do that. When she went to sleep in the aft so did I.
Then when she started school and I worked part time I used to pick her up in the car and while I was waiting for her shut my eyes.(I did wake up in time),
Now I am 47 and don't work so I nod off when I want.
Hope you get the meds sorted . (ask work for a bed and have a siesta) love PFx0 -
Hi Ellie
Firstly welcome to the forum - I was diagnosed with RA about 2 months ago and have been on MTX for 5 weeks now. I'm also working full time and still get very tired, only way to get through evening is to have a nap on couch after tea - can anything from 10 mins to 1.5 hours depends how tired I am. I don't set an alarm as my OH is in and will usually wake me if I go over 1.5 hrs. Never had any trouble sleeping when I go to bed which is usually 10 -10.30 as I am up at 6am to get ready for work. I would say rest when you need to it helps to get through the rest of the day

Hi and welcome! Tiredness is part of it I'm afraid!! But if your body is fighting pain as well as not sleeping then you will be tired! I had months of not sleeping well at night and then wondered why I got depressed and was tired all the time??!!!
Can you get something from the doctors to help you sleep?? Cant remember what most people get but am sure someone will tell you! Begins with A!!!! Its not sleeping tablets but helps the pain! Worked for me and was brilliant to sleep all through the night - made the days easier!!! do deal with. :?
take care and keep in touch.

Hi, I'm so sorry that you are feeling tired, but it sounds as if this isn't the best time in the world for you, right now. Moving alone is enough to make me feel queasy!
Maybe this move will bring you into touch with some doctors who will be able to help you more and find something better in the medication line.
I'm glad you've found us and are getting some help from the site.
Love Sue0
