Hi All
Have not been on here for a while. I just wondered if anyone can help me. Some time back i had what i thought might have been a stroke but luckily it was not. I do have OA in neck, spine and lower back. I thought when i had a funny feeling go over my head from my neck which left my right arm and hand weak that i had a stroke but no. Anyway i have had an MRI to try and find out the reason, well the results came back as having Arterial Vascular Disease in the brain,.
The consultant also thinks i have Fibromyalgia, as well as the OA.
She did not really explain things very well, also the other doc with her was falling asleep, i waved my hand in front of his face and asked him if he was still with us, the consultant said he is always like that, talk about not having faith with doctors.
Not really taking everything in, and my husband not being with me, he was putting more money in for the car parking, i am at a loss. I do have to see my gp for other tablets, the consultant states at present there is no sign of any stroke, but later on in life there could be. Has anyone else heard of this through having OA in neck?
Many thanks for reading, sorry so long and winded, i am just worried.
Thanks
Monica

Monica, not sure if this will help, but I have Temporal Arteritis (TA) also known as Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA). This is controlled with steroids - but I do get flare-ups as with any other infammatory condition.
TA tends to attack the medium size arteries rather than the large ones, so it probably isn't the same thing.
I think you need to talk to your GP and possibly also to the consultant (or his/her secretary to arrange a phone follow-up). These things are so worrying when you are left up in the air and you do need to get it all clear in your own mind.

Hello Annie
Thankyou for answering, TA is nasty, i hope it gets better soon. my husband phoned the secretary up this morning, she was really helpful, she is sending all the details to my gp by next week, then i will go and see my gp together with hubby, and i know he will demand to know everything, i either forget somethings or get upset. So hopefully i will know what is what.
You take care

Hi Angel
Sorry to hear about your new diagnosis. Ask your GP to explain it when you next visit. I just wanted to send my regards.
I'm sure someone will be along shortly with some good advice.

Hi Monica
I can't help with the diagnosis I'm afraid, but just wanted to wish you all the best .. good idea to discuss it with your GP when he has the consultant's letter.

Hi Monica
So sorry about your new diagnosis but really pleased to read that your GP is being sent all the information so you and your husband have a proper discussion about what's what. I thought I'd seen my share of disinterested doctors but I have never had one fall asleep during my appointment (yawning copiously, yes, falling asleep no) and that is absolutely shocking isn't it.
Really good luck at your GP appt. Please do post and let us know when it is so we can think about you.

Hi Monica
nice to see you posting again....but sorry you've got these worries.
what a consultation you had at hospital  falling asleep during a consultation has to be a first! did he have narcolepsy I wonder...that could be the only acceptable reason!
I can't help with any info on the arterial disease....but am glad your OH got such a good reception from the cons secretary. ...a long appointment with your doc is now definitely in order. :!:
please let us know Monica how you get on?
