Hi Bluebeard - I love heat for OA pain, though if my OA knees swell I do use ice then. I use wheatie bags heated in microwave - put a small cup of water in the microwave too for safety reasons. I also use a hot water bottle and in cold weather wear "passion killers!" (thermals.) In winter I cover my legs in a fleece blanket when relaxing. I used to have an electric blanket on my bed - but now have a memory foam mattress - and don't think the two are compatible.

    Hope the heat helps.

PS I used to have and love a heated car seat for winter car journeys too (my joints HATE the winter.) It eventually stopped working ... must consider replacing it.
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.
