Hi guys, I've not been on for ages, sorry. Have put this on help desk as well, but what do you guys think? I have inflammatory arthur in fingers, hands, shoulders and feet, but last month started having severe pain in neck, shoulder and down arm, also burning to right of spine below shoulder and then after a week weakness in arm, this is all on the rightside. Was sent by gp for xray of cervical spine, this is result, There is reversal of the normal cervical lordosis associated with moderate multi level degenerative changes with disc narrowing and osteophytosis C4/5 C5/6 C6/7. Facet joints normal. Gp has given me copy to give to rheumy, but not seeing him till oct.
What I am wondering is wether this is to do with inflammatory arthritis or is this osteoarthrits? All thoughts welcome, Jo x

It sounds like OA but I'm no expert. I hope someone else can help you more. Is it possible to phone up the rheumy clinic to get an earlier appt? Sometimes there are cancellations and I'm sure there must be spaces for urgent appts.
All the best. x0 -
Hiya
I agree sounds liek OA from me too - also not any kind of expert.
Oddly enough had the same issues myself and the same letter for my rheumy
Mine caused numbness of skin too
Pain eh?

Hi Jo
I wouldn't have a clue what these results mean; the medical 'language' doesn't lend itself to ordinary mortals understanding it  but agree it might be worth you phoning for an earlier appointment with rheummy.
let us know how you get on? I'm going through the same kind of neck pain investigations and have an area of numbness and stabbing pain on the upper right arm too!
Toni...what did your docs tell you about your neck xray results?

Hi, Its always hard to try and read these things, all I can say is that I have an osteophate on C4/C5 I think, and this is caused by OA. But yours may well be different. Can your GP not explain the results to you or a physio, if you are seeing one? Its all so bl*****y complicated and you need help to read these medical reports. Well, I do or I end up with God knows what!!!

Hi Jo,
Nice to see you againDegenerative changes = oa but I also have some of that and they tell me some of mine is oa and some is the pa so ...... The narrowing and osteo things are indicative of oa (they call it either spondylitis or spondylosis and I got both but one is oa and one is the pa and I can't remember which is what I am afraid  )
Like the others I think an early appointment is a good plan. Some degenerative changes are just 'getting older' but there are other things there as well.
I hope you get some help for the referred pain in the shoulder and arms and sending you a ((( ))) and its good to see you again. Cris x0 -
Thanks guys
I do have a gp appt tomorrow night, so will ask to be referred back earlier, hopefully she will do this. She didn't explain xray to me, just said give copy to rheumy
Dorcas, re numbness, I do get a strange numbness feeling in my wrists, maybe this is coming from neck as welll. Hope you get answers too
Chris hi again, I suppose it could be oa and ia together causing a prob :?:
Maybe the rheumy will send me for a MRI?
Love to everyone Jo x0 -
Hi Pixie
Glad you have an apt tomorrow
Mine didnt explain mine either (Iris) think you can have both Oa and IA surely? As OA is known as wear and tear?? Iris my numbness was neck and chest really and it was yukky creeping down my left arm I think shoulderwards over that way not under the arm - over the top. Anything like yours??
I am taking a copy of report from the xray dept (breif) to the rheumy in september
Hope you find out more

Hi Toni,
Been to docs this aft, not referring me back early as thinks oct ok to wait
:? Kept me awake again last night
She has advised have a steroid inj in shoulder, but I wonder if this would help, if its coming from neck? Also she doen't do injs, so have to see someone else.
Those of you who have had steroid inj in joint do they help?

Personally they've never worked for me, tho others have had good results. It's the same old same old - we're all different. I get fed up typing that! I wish AC could stick it in with the emotis! There is an art to administering them, which could be why your GP didn't want to try. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
