    Hi Alan
You poor thing, you will have to try an hot water bottle,or anything warm come to that.
Some people swear by ice, but i much prefer heat, if you can get out tomorrow see if you can find the wheat cushions that you put in the microwave....don't pay to much they are around 2 to £3 .
Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Hi Alan....I'm coming in very late to your thread  so sorry that the neck pain has returned with such a vengeance.

How was your night? did you try the heat solutions?

I hope you aren't suffering too much although I suspect you will be; neck pain is so 'demanding'. I too have neck pain with stabbing nerve pain running down the arm and am waiting to hear results of xrays and blood tests. I find heat applied to the neck soothing and apart from that taking pain meds regularly to try to keep on top of the pain.

Do you have a neck collar? that at least would support your neck and minimise the amount of pressure from supporting/ turning your head. I'm sorry I don't have any great solutions :( but if it's too bad today perhaps you should be contacting NHS 24?

    thinking of you today

Hi, Sorry you are feeling so bad, my neck is playing up at the moment, which is why I'm not on here as much as usual, I thought I'd give myself a break from anything that might set it off. I hope that you can do the same. If its still as bad tomorrow you'll have to go and let the doc see it and check it over.

Hope you feel better soon. Love Sue

I think the two are linked as well, alanmancunian. It's tough, I know, my neck plays up when I flare and the continual crutch use doesn't help either. Mine is nowhere near as bad as yours but I send sympathy anyway, and I hope it can be eased for you soon by some means. DD

Sorry to read about your neck. I was in a small car accident in 1983, hit side on and suffered agonies for several years-so bad couldnt kiss my boyfriend without dreadful pain. then just suffered at night but suffered is the right word. I ended up sleeping sitting up as would wake up in the night with locked jaw and knew that it would be agony to move a milimetre but of course you have to move and go through THAT tortue.

You might have to stay awake until Monday!

    Hi
I bet you are feeling pretty rough with it all. You are right about the connection with your flare. Anti-inflamms, painkillers are the right way to go until you get sorted.

I had Kenalog 3 months ago which was about as much use as a chocolate fireguard but I have found depot medrone effective. The depot will calm your flare then hopefully your neck in time. Do you use a memory foam pillow? I have found that better for my neck as I do also have arthur in my neck, it may help you long term.

    Hop you get help tomorrow

    Hi Alan

I'm new to the site but just sending you my best wishes and hoping you feel a bit better today. I have suffered with my neck over the last 5/6 years, last xrays showed no damage but boy has it been playing up lately. Sulfa seems to be working on everything else but just cant get to the neck. I find heat helps I have an infrared lamp that I put on and direct at the neck to 15/20 mins it is really deep heat and does help...I also sleep on a Tempur pillow which is specially shaped for your neck with great support ...
Let us know how you are today.

    Love SS

How many pillows do you have alanmancunian? The Armchair is a good pillow arrangement: place one pillow horizontally as normal, then place two side by side, vertically so the first pillow is covered by the tops of the vertical pillows, then place another horizontally across the top of the two verticals: I wish I could etch-a-sketch it on here for you! Your back has some support, as does your head. Do you have enough pillows tho to try it? DD

Half-sat up won't do you any good at all alan, unless you can wedge a small sofa cushion behind your bonce to support it. The human head is extremely heavy, it's a miracle that necks even hold them upright, given their delicate nature. This is going to sound daft, but have you thought about rolling up a standard bath towel and trying to use it like a neck brace? It would support your neck and your head too. I'm racking my brains mate, but I'm not too good at this sort of stuff! DD

    Hi Alan

Just checking in to see how you are doing...not so good I see :(

Necks are truly vile things to go arent they?

I am so sorry - rest as much as you can in the daytime too to catch up on sleep

    Love

Oh I am pleased you slept better, that is a good thing! Did you do anything different or is it easing of its own accord? DD

I was glad too to read that you've had a better night :D but recognise your worry too about increasing the steroid tablets. :?

I've never been on steroid tabs...only injections but know how powerful, but ultimately hazardous in long term use, they can be.

what does the doc say you should do just now about increasing the steroids until you see a specialist?

so sorry you're suffering so. :(

will be thinking about you and glad you are keeping us posted.

My body is duly wrecked. I've been on those lovely little pills for over 3 years now and I no longer care. They are the only things that work. I'm not fussed about preserving myself for tomorrow when today is too bl***y difficult! DD

Thanks for the info alan, that's kind of you. I'm already taking alendronic acid, have been for two years now - that's supposed to protect against osteoporosis. Does it? Will it? Who knows or cares? We can only do what we can do. DD

Just for your info, it's a DEXA scan nearly there! Not sure if they will just send you for one as they are very expensive and we all know what the NHS are like!

    Hi Alan,
Sorry that you are having such a bad time of it.
Only had the neck problem a couple of times but the shooting pains in the head are the pits.
Stops you from driving as you cannot turn your head. :(
Hope things improve asap for you. Only things I can think of to add is rubbing in the anti inflam gel or gentle massage round the shoulders.

    Best wishes,
    Ix
