Hi Hileena
Must admit, I was surprised how relaxed my Dr was about getting the size right but it kind of suited me ....
Doing some research, I discovered lots of diferrent views on compression stockings and when to wear them.
The official NHS policy seems to be day and night for 6 weeks after your op. Having said that, my district nurse told me very few people wear them at night.
In the end, I made my own decision but was a bit nervous at first!
I made sure I didn't stay in bed at all nor sat stll in my chair for hours on end.

Hi.....yes they all seem to be different about their rules and regulations....I had mine done first then speedy and marion and I can remember the different things we were all told....I was 6 week to my first appt with consultant.....speedy was much longer than that.....D. Nurse said i could take the stockings off at night etc etc Seems to dependend what health authority you are in

Morning mike, what an interesting and useful list. I reckon that should be put at the top of the forum, or at least listed somewhere on the site, 'cos it contains so much useful info that people are always going to want to know. Please contact the mods, tell them you've done a list, ask them to view it and see if they are interested in incorporating it into a booklet as well as being on the website. I think you've done something important there. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Good idea DD....Ask the mods will they make it a sticky

Hi DD
Glad you found it useful so I'll see what the mods think about your idea.
My wife & I both used to work for Birmingham Social Services (IT support and Finance) so we know a bit about what services can be had and who to go to for help.

I have to ask: have you achieved No 4 on your list of things you can do? (!) A nosey DD.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
-
Nope!
I'm edging towards thinking about it ..... but time isn't right for my wife at the moment, if you know what I mean!
Also, my wife is currently sleeping in our spare bedroom 'cause she's at work & I'm still waking up every hour or so & then struggling to get back to sleep!
Give it time ....

Well, I wish you both well. These things take time and energy and a bit of planning! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Can I add....a blue badge even if you dont drive.....can be very handy if friends are taking you out......means they dont have to drop you at the door of somewhere, park the car far off, come back to you maybe in the pouring rain and then poss go back for car in the pouring rain

hi Beowolf nice to have you on here i only recently started to come on this lovely forum
I was told my pain threshold is amazing having had normal deliverys with 5 of my children inc a 9lb 8oz and 9lb 7oz with no pain relief whats so ever, so the pain i get has to be really bad for me to feel it but it makes things worse becase I try to carry on through it making it worse in the long run, I'm waiting for a TWR op got a date of 27th september op on 28th but am waiting for a heart scan to check me out as i get breathless a lot, had a camera op ( anthroscopy)back in may but the wrist op is a big one but have the lovely DD who had it done to help me through it shes already given me some brilliant advice ( I've already brought some front fastening bras Iris, but keep calling them front loading bras LOL) you will certainly get all the info you need on here xx0 -
Many thanks to everyone for all your great tips, and isn't it good news that they're going to make a special web page so that everyone can share.
You're so right lavenderlady, it is a double edged sword to have a high pain threshold.....it's so easy to push yourself too hard without realising. My right hip is in nearly as bad a state as my left, the consultant has already said I'll have that one done next, but I don't feel the pain....yet.
At the moment it's the flipping tiredness thats getting to me0 -
Thanks for reminding me about this, Hileena
I've amended my list accordingly - hope you don't mind.

webmanager wrote:Dear all esp Mike,
The lists in this topic are great and we here at Arthritis Care are going to use them as the basis of a new web page under Surgery.
I considered making this a sticky but it has quite a lot of 'now' chat in it as well as the longer-term lists.
Mike - would you copy your list into a new topic "Going to Hospital - great tips" and I will make that a sticky.
Thanks
Webmanager
Done!
Hope it helps a little!
