Hello psyart, it's good to hear from you. I am sorry but I have no experience of gab (oral steroids are my fattening drug of choice) but I do know exactly what you mean and I don't know what can be done. I eat very healthily for the most part (tho that has all gone tits up this weekend with beer, curry and BBQ - but life is for living and that means a bit of fun every now and again!) in that I do my five-a-day at the minimum, I don't eat bread, I love raw veg for a munch if feeling peckish and I try to keep the indulgences I do have to a reasonable level. We also make our own hummus and dips, so that we can control the fat levels involved and avoid preservatives etc. I also do our own 'crisps', using potato, parsnip, beetroot etc - OK, the taste isn't quite the same but they are better for us! What it comes down to is this: does the drug help with the symptoms? In my case the answer is a resounding yes, so b***er what comes with it. The steroids make me feel better - yes, it's a fake better, but it's better than nothing. **** the weight, I just live in the wrong times and in the wrong country: in the 18th century I would have been beautiful and I may well emigrate to Tonga. They like fat women there! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Louise,
Ask them for pregabalin flower... much better and I haven't noticed more weight gain that I can tag to them either. I also have tramadol and it seems a reasonable combo.
I didn't go on the gabapentin as the rumo said it wasn't as good and I needed the pregabalin fast! It took me months to get to 300 but its still quite effective. You will have to see cus I see Doctor H and you may see the prof?
Have you long to wait til you see the rumo again?
Sun.... bout time eh?! Mind clouds do seem to be moving up ... you out there blowing them? You realise I will shunt them back don't you?! Hope you can get some help with this one. Cris x0 -
Thanks for quick replies!
DD - have been trying to sort out what to do for the best - there doesnt seem to be there right way to go so am taking my time over making decisions.
So until i sort my mind out I cant really write about what is going on   . i am here but in the background :!:
But one major thing that has happened is my doctor signed me as unfit to work for 3 months and said to see what I am like after that :!:
I have taken the names of the meds so will talk to someone when I see them - i have emailed the Rhunmy nurse and asked if I can see her or the consultant but will see. The doc said I will prob have to wait till my appointment in October :!: :!:
I dont feel ill like i was on the methx - just in pain - not sure which is worst . The gabapentin works for a while then I have to top it up with tramadol
I know that the weight shouldnt be an issue as there is so much I need to think about but it does worry me
Thanks again for the quick reply - i appreciate it as I know you both are having a tough time at the mom. (((((hugs)))) for you both.

I've been on injected meth for yonks and humira for just over a year. The pain has never gone. I manage with co-codamols for the day and the occasional tramadol for night. Pain is part of my life and has been since 1997. That is not going to change, it is not going to go away, I just get on with it. I cannot stand the hippy-dippy Californian thing of 'Make your pain your friend'. You can 'Anglo Saxon go away' with that moronic attitude, and when you have you can 'Anglo Saxon go away' some more! It is not my friend, but neither is it my enemy. It's just me. Oh, by the way, I lke the new style - so much easier to read! Thanks for that psyart! DDHave you got the despatches? I started to put on weigh about 8 years ago when diagnosed with underactive thyroid but told myself that it would not become a burden - just part of me as I didnt want to have to worry about it along with the other changes going on :!:
I think the pain issue is something I will have to get use to but the words of the consultant keep coming back to me - with these meds he said - we can get you back to the way you were :!: :!:
Pain will never be my friend and I dont want to give into it but its learning to adjust to it and living around its visits :?: which at the moment are most of the time . When I was on 20ml of methx I didnt have the pain - just horrid side effects
I admire your courage and spirit DD.
Take care

Consultants lie. They don't mean to, but they do. The drugs they give us are not cures, not as I interpret that word. The consultants generally don't have arthritis, it's all just theory to them, they live with the theory - we live with the reality. Fact. Thank you for the kind words, but they are not deserved. I'm not prepared to sit and feel sorry for myself. That won't get me anywhere, or anyone else for that matter. Fact. Hang on in there psyart, you'll get the hang of it. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
