Hi guys, just wondering if anyone can help, I've been taking methotrexate 10mg for 7 weeks now. Since my last dose on Friday I have developed a red itchy rash on the back of my leg just behind my knee. I was wondering if anyone knows whether this could be a side effect of the mtx or just coincidence. I'd be grateful for any advice or information anyone could offer. Thanks a lot, Brenda xx

    Hi Brenda,

I've not had this and I'm on Mtx. I wouldn't be too worried as it's just in one area but if it was me I'd give the GP a ring just to make sure.

Thanks Debs and Legs I think you're right, I'll give the GP a ring if it persists, been putting germoline on it and it has calmed it down a bit. Thanks for your help xx

Behind the knee is a classic site for eczema - meth rash is triggered by the sun - you been wearing shorts? Come to think of it, what is the sun? I have heard vague rumours of a big yellow ball in the sky but I haven't seent it for ages now. Either way I'm not sure about Germoline for it - I remember the pink stuff in a small tin, smelt like the inside of a sticking plaster - but if it's eased it, well, that's the main thing. If it's still there go and see a pharmacist - they're useful for this type of thing! Good luck. DD

    Hi Brenda

Just seen your post  sorry.

Hope that the itch has eased ? don't know if it could be related to the Mtx...I've been on it for years but not had a rash but did get the brown spots from exposure to the sun as I didn't know about that possible side effect/ reaction.

Let us know how you are?

    Hi Brenda,

I have some vague recollection that mtx can cause rashes but as its just the one place with a bit of luck it will soon clam down. I am sorry i am late to this post but also agree it might be best to have a docs appointment, should be able to do it over the phone really, and just make sure. Sending some ((( )))'s and hope its all calmed down now. Cris xx

When I first started taking Methotrexate it was my torso that itched.

It's likely nothing but always best to get it checked out.

Hope it is a bit better.

Hi,I had a red, itchy, bumpy rash on my fore arms when I first started on MTX.The consultant said he thought it was due to a reaction with sunlight and the MTX and advised me to use a high factor sunscreen when out in the sun.I used Eurax cream which is available over the counter in most chemists and that worked wonders. Hi DD, Iris, Cris, Carol and Breane, thanks for your words of wisdom and advice, I have been out in the sun but, not the back of my knee, which has remained covered up, not sure the world is ready for flashes of my flesh!! The rash is still there and now I have one on the underside of my arm too, it is very itchy and red, not sure what the cause is. I have been for a spa day today and spent some time in saunas etc, so not sure if all the heat may have started the new one. Got to go for some blood tests on Thursday so if its still there then I'll ask for some advice.

Thanks again for your replies, hope you are all well and not having too much trouble with Arthur.

Love and hugs to all, Brenda xxxx((((((((())))))))xxxxx

    Hi Brenda,

Apologies i have only just seen this, been away for a few days and it takes for- ever to catch up

Hope your rash has calmed down and it could have been the sun , or just the metho, i remember my mom got a rash on the top of her foot! What the DR gave her to put on it made it soooo bad for ages , (dont want to worry you) It was the cream she gave her it was far to strong and it made it like a huge burn ! it was so awful. she had to have the district nurses in to change the dressings etc. So be careful and get it looked at hope it has gone now and there will be no need to worry!
