Propaganda on TV

Hi,
I think I may be getting paranoid but if anyone whatches Corniation Street, have you noticed that the young disabled girl on a scooter, is shown as fighting her family to allow her to work. This could'nt be anything to do with propagnada? Showing us, who can't work that others can manage perfectly well and have no problems with the job. It does also give a positive view of disability I know, but I'm feeling cynical at the moment!!!
Has anyone seen the Times today? their is a short bit about how the Govenment are going to get even tighter with benefit rules and show us all how to work, whatever we have wrong with us? I'd say go to Times online, but they have started charging a pound now for 1 day and I think that is a rip-off and so have stopped using it!!! Gosh what a misrable cow I am today!!!! It must be the weather! Love Sue

You are not a miserable cow woodbon! Never will I have that said about you, even by you! I don't watch Coronation Street so I cannot comment on that story line, neither have I seen the Times, but both underline the problem that the disabled face. Some are very unfit for work in that thery just could not, no matter how much they wanted to, some can manage to work and do, and there are those who can manage to work and can't because no-on will 'risk' employing them and, let's face it, there are those who have minor disablements and are quite happy, and are allowed, to live off the backs of everyone else.
Disabled is a blanket term for a myriad of conditions. That's the fundamental problem. How about grading us? Grade 1 for the layabouts, up to a Grade 5 for those that abolutely cannot. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
You don't need to pay to read it, just send a letter to the editor at letters@thetimes.co.uk
or the newsroom at home.news@thetimes.co.uk
General comments concerning the lousy attitude and treatment by Atos/DWP are all that is needed. But too many people are moaning and groaning on this forum and not doing anything really positive about the situation. Emails are free and I have already sent 2 into national dailys this afternoon. If everyone who reads this sent just one email using the links above, then things might become fairer. It only takes a minute of YOUR time to improve the lives of many arthritis sufferers.

hi
I travel by bus so I get a free copy of Metro newspaper and I have noticed that just lately there have been loads of stories about the government cracking down on disability benefit cheats. There have also been several stories about cut backs on hip and knee replacement ops0 -
Hi, I do things other than moan to the forum. I have written to my MP (Tory) and had a personal reply, agreeing that Atos have had a lot of complaints, and stating that no-one should have to work or go without benefits when they are ill and/or in pain. I have written to several papers in the past one published in the Times and have had my words quoted in an article written in a journal, which was quite a suprise, as they had given me a named quote!
Anyway, I dare say I could do more, but I don't at the moment, feel able to.
My comment about the cost of the times is that one can't point people to read an article thats online as it costs to call it up, £1, and not everyone reads the same paper, which makes writting to them difficult when you don't know what you are answering!

It wasn't a specific comment aimed at you, Sue. I am sorry if it seemed that way, it was not my intention.
We should all be aware of the situation by reading the posts on the Living With Arthritis forum and while some people will write and complain, others won't. Also, arthritis sufferers shouldn't need to read specific articles to know that the DWP spend millions of your money spreading propaganda about how wonderful their new system is.
It was just a general nag to try to get people moving and be a greater help to others.
