I use Tramadol 50mg at night when things are tough. Thanks to skezier I have been dancing today for the first time in years - 'DD The Tramadol Nights' is a new volume, which will see its introductory chapter written this evening. It will make up for 'DD: The Cougar Years' which will never be written, which personally I find a tragedy.

Tramadol is strong. I can only take it at night because it knocks me for six - I sleep well on it until the pain wakes me up again. It is morphine based, so if you have problems with taking morphine, as some do, it may not be the best option for you. The day-time pain reliever of choice is co-codamol 30/500. Truth be told, the pain never really goes, no mater what I take: it just has its edge taken off. I wish you well. DD

Hi, I take tramadol. They are the only thing that really help me as I can't take anti inflammorories. Not the ordinary ones though, that you take 4 times a day. I found those up and down, a quick fix for an hour or so and then pain again. I have slow release tablets, which are disigned to last for 12 hours, taken twice a day. They give me a much more even pain relief and a better nights sleep. The pain clinic suggested them.

Tramadol are strong, synthetic opiate, so the frist week or so, I thought they were too much, but then my body got used to them. The slow release, I think, are much better for me, but we are all different.

Naproxen does nothing, apart from giving me oral thrush. It's a lily-livered drug for me. In my opinion it is an anti-inflammatory, rather than a pain killer, but the humira I take has sorted out the inflammation. DD

    Hi Bluebeard

I've been on Tramadol since March this year. It really helps with my pain. I thought it was causing me to sweat profusely but it turned out it was a new blood pressure meds. My GP has put me on something else and I'm now back to normal and no heavy sweats.
If I didn't take Tramadol I don't think I would be able to walk.
I'm waiting for another total knee replacement.

    Hi BB :D

I'm on Tramadol 50mg x 2 .... four times a day on 'bad' days, twice a day at other times.

Also on co-dydramol 10/500 (Dihydracodeine and Paracetamol) but don't take the the Tramadol & Co-dy at the same time!

    On Amatriptyline 60mg for nights.

The Tramadol does make me feel 'spaced out' and I make a point of not driving if I'm taking them during the day as I'm sure it wouldn't be safe....'driving under the influence of drugs' is not something I want to hear read out to me from a charge sheet.

I think the slow release ones that Sue takes sound better..so I'm gonna mention them next rheummy visit. thanks Sue

Hope you find something that helps with the pain BB

    Hi
Yes tramadol and paracetamopl are OK together.....I think most things are oK with paracetamol.....but I was on tramadol and paracetamol.
I was on 8 a day after THR.....I was groggy but dont know how much of that was due to the operation and how much the tramadol. At my 6 week visit the consultant took me off them. I kept myself on 2 at night because I wasnt sleeping because of the pain but they didnt do any good.

Hi, I can take paracetamol if I get breakthrough pain or a headache, they are'nt the same drug, but things like co-codamol have the full dose of paracetamol in them and you should'nt take extra paracetamol. A lot of the strong pain killers have paracetamol as well as the other pain killer, so its best to find out, so you don't overdose. Why does it all have to be so confusing???

some of 'co- ' type drugs...such as co-dydramol, contain paracetamol and cannot be taken along with additional paracetamol in any form as you would be in danger of exceeding the daily max. :|

If in doubt.. ask a pharmacist.. as some other pain meds can't be taken together :?

Read the leaflets and info labels that come with these things, it's why they are there! Some of the info is redundant, but other bits are useful. DD

Hi, my arthritis is degenerative - OA - wear and tear. Arcoxia (anti-inflam) helps me - it is good for pain relief as well as keep inflammation down.

Have tried tramadol - great for pain relief - but it also gave me vertigo, hot flushes, sweats and a strange crawling sensation in my skin - so stopped taking it.

Co codomol helped take the edge off ... worked slightly better in the evenings with alcohol ...

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.
