    Hi Dougal

Just popping in here to give you a welcome too.

I don't have the same Arthritis as you however someone will be along soon to offer handy tips.

Yes, as you say you can feel very isolated at times which is where this forum kicks in beautifully.

Hope you are feeling a bit better today.

Hi Carola, thanks for your welcome and kind thoughts, I don't feel so isolated now I know there are many friends here, tc dougal

Hi Dougal and welcome from me too. :D

I don't have PMR either but like the other peeps who've already answered you post... know what it is like to cope with arther on a daily/ nightly basis.

Your so right about arther being invisible to others...that's part of the difficulty in the 'world out there' understanding our condition and the silent pain we have.

That's not the case here  and I'm glad you've found our forum :D we do know what it is like and get strength from supporting each other and being supported....or just having a bit of a rant!
having a sense of humour and sharing a laugh also helps.

hope to see you posting around the forum....just jump in...you'll be made very welcome. guaranteed!

Hello Iris, am taking your advice, will be posting here loads, you take care too x dougal

    Hi Dougal and welcome,

I have oestoarthritis so can't give you any info about your type ... but I do understand how stress makes arthritis worse and how work can be a struggle and how you can feel isolate with this disease.

This forum is great for support, advice and realising you are not alone ...

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi dreamdaisy,

Not having too bad a day today, despite being stung by a wasp in my garden ( are wasp stings good for Arthur , I wonder ?)... how about you?
Am having sunday lunch out this week so looking forward to a lazy day, no cooking or washing up to do.

    Hi Dougal,

I used to always be dashing about (on my legs) and then I got slower and slower as my OA got worse and I had to use crutches ... my friends and colleagues used to call me hop-a-long - but that user name was taken.

I have had an op and am improving again now. I even overtook a few people when at the hospital for my recent appointment (and they weren't on zimmers!!)

Nasty wasp, they start to get dopey and sting indiscriminately. Have a lovely day tomorrow, I love it when I don't have to dream up or prepare a meal.

Hi Dougal, sorry for the late input....had computer probs the last week.

I'm one of those with PMR (and GCA) first diagnosed some 8.5 years ago and on steroids in varying doses since then.

For good, reliable PMR info go to PMR-GCA UK - I think there may be a link to it here on AC.

If I can help in any way, please let me know......post here, or PM!

Nice to meet you, sorry it's likely to be PMR.

It's what I love about this place Dougal, people are just go very nice despite having their own issues.

I hope things improve for you and you get some decent care and treatment. I think you do a fantastic job working in mental health, anyone who works in that field, and nursing full stop gets my full admiration. Fantastic and worthwhile work.

    Morning Dougal

Hope you are not feeling too bad today

How was sunday lunch, bet it was lovely and tasted all the better cause you could walk (or in my case ride) away from the table leaving all the pots.

    The wasp sting , :(
did it get rid of arthur :?: wouldn't it be good if that was all it took. Seriously though hope it didn't cause you too much discomfort.

    Have a good day

I know that bee stings are used by some to treat a form of arthritis, but I cannot remember which. Morning dougal, I hope you had a good day yesterday. Mine was pants: I paid the price for walking home after a good Saturday night. Hi hum, never mind. Onwards and downwards! DD

    Hello dreamdaisy,
sorry to hear yesterday wasn't good for you, isn't it a shame you have to suffer after having a good night , life really isn't fair but I hope your saturday night was worth it.

Hi Dougal, I've had a good day, too. No rain here today so have pottered about outside and inside. Pottering is about the limit of my abilities now. There are several of us who are master potterers!

Because my bro was visiting over the weekend we went out for lunch yesterday....delicious! All the more tasty 'cos I hadn't cooked it.

Have a good night and hopefully a better morning.

HI Dougal & welcome to the forum!

I'm glad you have found the forum - it really is a mine of fantastic experiences and information. I can't help with your particular arthritis (I have RA) but you might find some info if you use the search facility and put in PMR (or the full name).

You're not on your own with finding yourself on the other side of medical things ... there are quite a few nurses / healthcare professionals on here who know 'arthur' only too well.

I'll look forward to seeing you posting.

    Hello wonkylegs,
what pictures your name conjures up!
I'm glad too that I found this forum as everyone is so friendly , I have been reading loads about the experiences members are having, most noted is the lack of understanding from non-sufferers, especially work managers and "officialdoms".
What I find good about this forum is the support & encouragement towards others to keep fighting on, despite their difficulties.
Hope your day is going ok.

    Hi annie,
thanks for your message & offer of help, will contact you if PMR is confirmed for more info.
At present I am still hoping for some positive medical help that will get me back to work, mentally I don't feel ready for retirement yet but I know the illness will dictate what happens next.
    take care
