MXT Injections

Hello everyone, I am writing this on behalf of my mom. She has RA and has been on 17.5mg of MXT and 15mg of steroids for about 6 months. We had an appointment with the Rhumy last week and as the MXT is not controlling the RA very well they want to try her on MXT injections along with Hydroxychloquine 200mg twice daily. As she has other medical conditions mostly affecting her lungs and breathing they are reluctant to try her with anything else.
They want us to go to the hospital for her to have the first injection, but we got the impression that this would then be done by us at home, does anyone else have to do this, and please let me know is it in the leg or tummy, sorry to ask, but we thought we have all questions covered untill we got out and the next patient was in. We have never seen a rhumy nurse as the MXT is prescribed by the GP.
Thank you for any information you can give. Joanne on behalf of my mom xx Have a good weekend Pain free I hope xx

Hi pidgeon .
Nice to meet you! and hello to your mum too.:D BTW I love your name
(one of my dearest buddies is a pidgeon messenger too)
Your mum's had a lot to cope with hasn't she.
It is just great that you are so supportive of her and that you've found us on this great forum. we are a welcoming lot and are always delighted to see new faces....so please post as often as you want to and join in any of the other posts.
I've been injecting Mtx 15mgs for some years now, but do know of some peeps who prefer not to do the injections themselves and attend hospital or GP/ nurse weekly....... so please don't be worried that you must be responsible for these injections.
If you do decide to inject Mtx at home then you will be shown how to do the injection and not left to manage until the hospital rheummy nurse is happy that you can (and you too!!)
The injections come in two forms....a pre-filled syringe (which is what I use) or an Mtx 'Pen'. The injection sites I use are stomach or thigh.....I prefer injecting on the stomach as I find it easier to do...and I can easily pinch a nice roll of flesh to inject into.
I haven't ever felt the needle or had any discomfort whatsoever from doing the Mtx injections...
I really that hope your mum gets on OK with her first jab and that changing to Injections helps her RA
let us know how your mum gets on and well done to you for being such a caring daughter.

Hi Joanna, very nice to meet you and welcome to the forum, I have been on 20mg MXT for about 6 years, I chose to inject myself which I do at home, I was taught how to do it by a nurse, I use my tummy and my thigh, you have to keep changing sites, I hope your mum gets on ok love Jaspercatxx0
