Hi all
I am 39 and have got my resuls back from my MRI scan and it showed i have cervical spondilosis.
Doctor said no more heavy lifting etc i am presently taking co codamlol and amitriptiline which only takes the edge off the pain i cant take anti inflammortorys as i am severley allergic to them anyone got any sugestions to good painkillers.
Have had physio, acuppuncture ben to a pain clinic for chronic pain which i felt was no good as it was all about the brain and that i could tell pain gates to open and close anyone else been to one of these ?? very strange i thought .
also use wheat packs etc just making me feel right down at the mo
Any way would be great to chat with someone who is in simlar position.
Caroline

I can't help in anyway at all as I have a different condition and have never been to a pain clinic as they don't run them in my area, but I thought I'd just say hello and encourage you to keep posting: I'm sure there must be some around here who have something similar, but Sunday nights isn't usually busy on the forums. I hope you sleep well, perhaps someone will be along tomorrow. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi, I've been to the Pain Clinic and been on 2 short seminars along the lines you'r talking about! :? I must admit that I found it hard to believe and it didn't make any difference to me. There are longer courses, I believe, but I still don't think I would have found some of the stuff any better! I was really interested in a relaxation session they were supposed to do, but the person who ran that was off sick, so it wasn't covered. :?
I bought a book about cronic pain relief, but I must admit I find it hard going! I hope I don't sound to negitive, but I think these things might work for some people but I'm not the sort of person that finds it helpful. Afterall, its like some painkillers work better on some people and others on other people. Horses for courses, as my Mum used to say!!! Lots of love Sue0 -
Hi Caroline,
Just wanted to welcome you to the forum.
Sorry not much help to you but I know neck pain is a real downer.
Difficult if you can not take anti- inflams. Might be worth ringing the help line team tomorrow.
Anyway, hope you keep posting. There might be more people to answer you after the weekend.

Hi Caroline,
Welcome from me as well. I also have spondy and its the most incredible pain! Its small wonder its getting you down.
I have intrusive treatment but have also got decent tabets as well. I was put on pregabalin as its a nerve recepter blocker and though I still have permanent pain it does bring it down to an acceptable level. Its a heavy on your brain to begin with and thee may be reasons why you can't take it but it might be worth asking.
As your seeing the pain clinic ask if they think a medron into the myelin sheath is worth ago? It hurts but it can bring very good benefits fr a bit and sadly a bit is all it can do.
I also find keeping the muscles even and strong helps.
I so wish you didn't have it cus i honestly know how much it hurts and how odd some the sensations it can bring are. Hang in there and maybe they will help you a bit more soon? Please let us know. Nice to meet you and take care. Cris x0 -

Hi Caroline
I have cervical spondylosis or OA of the neck also. When it was bad I didnt no what to do with myself, nothing seemed to help at first. I also can't take anti imflammitories, so take paracetamol and upto 60mg of codeine phosphate 4x a day when bad. I was also offered a steroid inj. Touch wood its is easing at the moment, so I hope yours will also.
I also have Inflammatory arthur as well, so if its not one its the other
Forgot to say I'm 43.
Take care Jo x0 -
I have OA in the neck, and I do sympathise with you. There have been times my neck pain is so bad, and then headaches it causes run on for days I have almost begged someone to take my head off just to give my neck a rest.
I've found that taking normal painkillers were not that great for me either (content removed as it contravened our terms and conditions - Moderator) so I'm looking at deep freeze gel which someone on here recommended to help with the pain, and headaches.
I also brought myself a gel pack, which you can either heat or freeze and wrap this in a tea towel and wrap that round my neck which gives some relief as well.
I know how painful it can be, I work an office job and just sitting at my desk for half an hour causes pain. I hope you find some decent pain relief soon.
