Hi, I saw a GP today, not my own, but one of the female doctors in the practice. She said that I have, according to the consultant early OA in my spine, neck, hands, feet and hips!!! :? That I must rest more and especially when I have flares like last week. When this happens I must do very little and rest until my fever goes and the swelling. She saw my swollen ankles and was going to give me a diaretic, but, in the converstation she, we both forgot. She is sending me to the physio for hand exercises to build up the muscles, as they are quite weak. She agrees that palates is a good idea.

I enjoyed the weekend, felt a lot better and went out for a bit of a walk and we took a picnic, which was nice. Not very far though, as my sister also has arthritis in her hip and it was bothering her and my husband has tendon problem in one of his legs, which cause him to have a sore heel, seems we are all falling to bits!!! I am having my MRI on 5th Sept, which is a Sunday, much to my surprise. So providing that doesn't show up anything I'm going to have to work on pain relief and strengthening my muscles.

Thank you all for your support during my recent flare. I think it was made worse by me worrying about feeling better for the week end. This comming weekend I'm off to Oxford for my God daughters wedding. Its a big posh do, which goes on all day but we have booked a hotel so, if we get tired we can slip away early!
I am a bit nervous, as it is such a big do, and goes on late. I don't want to cause a fuss, but I think that as its big, slipping away early will be easier than at a small do. Love Sue

At last you know, so I hope you feel more settled in yourself. It probably wasn't the news you wanted (!) but I think it is good to give a name to something then you know what you are facing and how to deal with it. It also means that docs have to listen to you, which is always a good thing. You sound as tho you are doing all the right things woodbon, so I wish you well with it all, especially the pilates. Enjoy the wedding! Do you have a big hat? DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Wow Sue

that was some consultation you had... but wasn't the doc great giving you so much information and advice!

you need time to digest what you've been told flower  but as DD said....at least you now know what's going on with your bones.

The posh wedding sounds like a great opportunity to dress up in all your finery...(or go shopping for some  )
Having an escape plan means you will be able to relax and enjoy the occasion knowing you can...if you need to..make a discreet exit.

    lotsa love and (((hugs)))

Sue, so glad you've got some answers at last; why it should help to be able to put a name to it I have never understood, but it does!

You do sound as if you have the bestest GP, you is one of the lucky ones...........

Hi, Thanks for all the messages and yes it does help, to know. I felt very 'washed out' yesterday, when we got home. It was a good visit and I am glad I went. She said that she didn't like the 'wear and tear' name that often gets stuck on it, its osteoarthritis and has a cause, which needs research to find out why some people get it and others don't. She explaind the OA 'flares' and everything! Shes not my GP, but one of the same team. (They work in groups of about 3 buddies as its such a big practice).

Yes, I've got my stuff for the wedding, I've got a 'fasinator' as they call them and it clips in my hair. Its not too big and showy its a sory of straw bow with a few feathers sticking out. Not a good discription  I like it as its not going to be something to look after if I take it off it'll go in my bag!
    Lots of love Sue

Hi Sue, at least with a diagnosis you know what you are dealing with and management of it can begin. The GP sounded great and very thorough - perhaps if you rang the surgery and asked for a doc to ring you - they would sort out the diuretic for your ankles.

Have a fab time at the wedding - having a room is a great idea - you can always sneak off for a lie down and pop back again. Have fun.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Sue

OA seems to have taken you over! What a nuisance this condition is. I hope they sort out your medication so you're not in too much pain. I have it in my knees (well one knee now that I've had a TKR); hands and I'm sure it's in my shoulder but still waiting to see specialist about this - they certainly take their time.

I went to a family party last weekend and the only thing I found difficult was standing up and chatting. I had to sit down a lot - I can't stand for any length of time. Thankfully it was mainly family and they understood. I hope you have a lovely time at your god-daughter's wedding.

Some GPs are great at listening and its reassuring to know that they're looking after your well being.

    With regards

    Hi Sue

Glad that you had such a good consultation.

I think it's going to be a nice weekend, weatherwise, so hope you really enjoy the wedding.. Weddings can be quite lengthy, so you may be able to pop to the hotel to recharge your batteries for an hour mid-way through it, and then come back looking all refreshed when everyone else is starting to wilt!!
