Healthy people are always so indignant when they fall ill, and I can understand why. At least they know they will get better, which is something I always point out to them! In my experience 'properly' ill people rarely moan, they just get on with things. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Lucy,
Referring to the cold packs/compresses, you can try an ice pack by using a bag of frozen peas. Put a damp cloth onto your foot, then the peas, then a blanket over them all - to keep you warm. You then leave this on for 20 minutes and then gently move your foot around. Re-freeze the peas for another time but don't eat them  You can also buy cold/heat packs from a chemist.
When the ice pack is first on the skin it feels really cold but is okay after a couple of minutes and cold can reduce inflammation, pain and swelling.
Hope this helps.
