Have you ever been burgled?

2 anecdotes for this one.....
1.when I was a small child we lived in a bungalow, my bed was under the window and one night I woke up to find a foot looming above me....a burglar decided my window was the one and got stuck trying to climb in, my hysterical screaming incentivised him to work harder at freeing himself and he was caught by the police cowering in my playhouse at the end of the garden
2. a few years ago we were solidly asleep in bed, when I was woken up by a big burly man standing next to my bed shining a torch in my face.........
"its ok madam its the police"
I gathered myself together (I wasn't exactly decent ), took my heart out of my mouth and sent hubby downstairs to find out what the hell was going on
Our front door catch was rubbish and had blown open in the strong wind, a kind samaritan had called the police at 2.30am and they responded with 5 officers who thought a burglary was in progress and had come in to check it out. 3 officers where checking out our downstairs when the two guys came across us asleep upstairs.
Thanks to the Samaritan and the frankly amazing police response but I still get nightmares of being woken up like that

I've been burgled once many years ago. I was living in a flat in a converted Victorian house & came home from work to find they had taken my front door off its hinges. So much for heavy mortice locks!
I lost a lot of items of sentimental value but was so relieved they hadn't vandalised the place or hurt my cats.
It was a bit scary & for years afterwards I thought about it every time I put my key in the front door downstairs. Uuugh.

My mum was burgled just over two years ago. She walked out of her dining room at 8pm on a Friday night in April, to find a stranger standing in her hallway. He had an accomplice upstairs, who was going thro her things. They made off, eventually, with her rings and £300 in cash. They also took my dad's wedding ring, which I had tried, unsuccessfully, to get from her the week before - she had promised it to give it to me on the first anniversary of his death but didn't want to part with it when the time came, and so kept it for a further six years. I now know not to place any value on sentimental items.
The only joy of mid-terraced living is that so far, fingers crossed, we have not had a burglary from a house: gardens, yes, but not the houses. We've had plants dug up from our front garden - it's a wasteland now - whatever we planted disappeared, now it's just gravel. No-one's nicked that, yet! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
You poor poor things
All theses stories are so scary!
DD I hope your Mum was ok and they didnt hurt her? Bad about the ring - bet she regretted not giving it to you then
So far so good for me

Yes.
Last year.
3 in the morning when we were in bed
One son heard them coming upstairs
Running feet as sons gave chase
Police arrived in 7 minutes
They didn't take anything
No one was hurt
No one was caught
Peace of mind ruined for a while
Hopefully never again.

had an attempted one many years ago....think they were thick burglars as alarm was going off, they also knocked out security lights but our neighbour gave chase. Got new back door now as other was flimsy.0

Yes, we were burgled about 10 years ago. My wife got up for work at 4.30am and must have disturbed them, they took all our leather jackets and coats and many other things.
We never got the true value of all the things we lost.0
