Big toe spasm

Every once in a while my left big toe goes into a type of spasm: it's like a cramp, the tendon that runs to it stands out and my toe is at right angles to my foot. The only way I can flatten it is to stand on it with my right foot for some time. If I let it go too early it sticks back up again. I'm not particularly bothered by this, it doesn't happen that often, it hurts yes, but then so does everything else. I'm just curious about it. I was standing on it at 3.45am, resting on my crutches, thinking of julie47pf as my stance was similar (!) and wondering whether to post this. I've just got around to it! It was back to normal by 4.30am. As I say, I'm not bothered, just curious. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi damsel :D

I get awful cramp in my legs and toes.... and by far the toe cramps are the worst and most difficult to shift... as you say if you move too soon after you think you've got it under control.. it comes back with a vengeance.

I've tried drinking Indian Tonic Water, applying heat, cold, socks on/off nothing seems to make a difference. My doc gave me quinine tabs but they didn't work either..

Sorry DD  no help at all............ just oodles of empathy.

will be watching your post though to see if anyone has an answer!

    Anti spasm ((((hugs))))

Oh julie, I didn't mean to upset/imply anything  but I think your smile means I'm OK! I admire your humour greatly, I don't know how you manage it. I do get calf cramp but that is due to not moving much in the night, I think, and is easily sorted by standing up and pressing down. I tend to forget that in addition to the PA I am also getting older: the body doesn't process things as well as it does when younger, plus when you factor in all the drugs, it's not surprising these things happen. Ho-hum. I am sorry julie. DD

    Hi DD,

I get vast amounts of cramp and it always starts as imaginary cramp in the toe that's not there. Its often at night though I have had it even walking but its usually cus I have pushed my luck too far. They have all these ideas over it and I do take quinine so maybe full fat tonic water could help... yeah I know you'd have to water it up

Moving is the only way to stop it with mine, it don't half interfere with sleep especially when the cramp makes it to the back. Hope its transient for you. ((( ))) and some anti-cramp dandelions xx

Thanks skezier, I love my foliage! Low potassium levels are also thought to be a cramp culprit, so apparently munching a daily banana is supposed to be beneficial. I loathe narnars. Despicable fruit. I shall stick to full-fat tonic with a liberal splash of juniper-infused liquid - much more fun! DD
