Advice Please....URGENT

Hi again everyone,

I have finally given in to the pain in my hips and been to see my GP about pain relief.
He has given me Naproxen to try,with stomach medication too.

I am a bit worried about these drugs,particularly that it says may increase chances of heart attack and strokes.....Please can someone share any info about this medication........I am afraid to take it now.

Or am I just overreacting.

    hi. i wouldnt worry too much.
    im on naproxen too, i have been for approx 7 months and they have worked for me although i know everyone is different. the fact that your gp has give you the stomach protectors too is good, i am also on them. i did ask my gp if its safe to take so many tablets (i rattle when i walk these days) and he did reassure me that it is ok but if you have any concerns i would recommend you talk to your gp about it. that is what they are there for, to ease your concerns. take someone with you if you can for support.

    personally for me the naproxen only took the edge of the pain and im on cocodamol too. im learning that getting the right medication takes time, to find what works for you.

    obviously im not a doctor but i feel safe enough on these tablets. i would talk to your gp though if you're still concerned. every one is entitled to ask questions :)

    you may be overreacting lovely. :wink: your doc wouldn't have prescribed it for you if he thought it would do you any harm.

    Naproxen is one of the well known and much used NSAIDs. The leaflets for all meds come with a lengthy list of possible side effects.... possible not probable. The manufacturer's have to provide this information by law.
    but....
    If you are seriously worried about taking it phone your doc tomorrow or speak to your local pharmacy for advice before starting.!

    i took naproxen for a short while the only problem i had was they didnt work for me but they do for many others, i shouldnt worry i was fine and im a nightmare with meds.

    pop into your pharmacy tomorrow and ask for advice if your still worried.

    They have to list POSSIBLE side effects. If we paid attention to every listed thing none of us would be on anything. Only you can make the choice. I have been on nap for yonks and to be honest it has done little for the inflammation and pain, but it has given me continuous oral thrush. I take it after omeprazole (stomach protector) and always with food: so far no ulcers. DD
