    Hi Lucy....

    Normal figures are :--

    ESR 0-15

    CRP 0-6

    Your CRP is slightly high

I've had mine over 100 for both........

    Hope this answers....

I've never had an RF factor, but like Rob, my CRP and ESR have been over 100 at times, and occasionally well over! DD

thank you both, over 100?? wow thats really high, does that happen when you have a major flare cos the dr said something about inflamation, ESR and CRP are both to test for inflamation in the body arent they? that would explain why my CRP is only 11 then cos not swelling up that much really.

also would like to know if anyone has arthritis in the hips and what its like,i am in so much pain with mine at the moment couldnt even lift my leg over to get in the bath earlier, none of the pain meds i got touch it,the pain is at the top of my thighs and goes into the groin area but its hard to pinpoint a exact location for it, lucy x

    Hi Lucy,
I have OA with suspected RA so I can't really offer much advice only that my RF level was 44... i was told by my gp it was raised also but im presuming my rheumatologist will do more tests.

As for the pain in your hips, I do have that also. I cant stand for long periods but cant sit for long periods either which is very annoying. it almost feels like a cramp or a dull ache and i find i cant lift my legs very high like yourself without it twinging. Im only on basic meds at the moment, naproxen and cocodamol which ease it some but not much. im sure your doctor will get to the bottom of which meds are best for you just keep a note of all the pains you are getting and how often etc. It will make it easier to remember when you go.

Sorry Im not much help but I hope you get it sorted and get some relief soon

thanks rob, he did say there is no infections or anything so thats good.

hi caroline, ive only been given ibuprofen and co-codamol but it doesnt touch my hip pains, it helps with the other joints tho but maybe they will give me something else when i see the rheumologist,i i get throbbing when im sitting down but its nothing compared to when i move, turning over in bed is nearly impossible too, when do you have to go to hospital to see about RA? OA must be bad enough on its own without another type of arthritis too,im sorry to hear that, lucy x

    Hey there,

I don't know, I wouldn't worry too much about numbers. For some people they reflect the level of inflammation, and for others they mean absolutely b*gger all!

I have RA but my RF is like... nothing, and my ESR and CRP have never been over 4 or something, even when i've had swelling when they've taken the blood.

So yeah some of your figures are slightly high but what really matters are your symptoms and hopefully your doctors will firstly listen to what you tell them and only use the test results as a guideline.

    Good luck!!

Sounds very familiar to the pains I suffer from, I have trouble turning over too. Ive been diagnosed with generalized OA, pretty much in every joint and now suffering from muscle pains too and apparent raised inflammation markers so Im going back to the Rheummy on 14th of this month for a review. Fingers crossed for some answers for both me and you hey x

I had bloods done for CRP, ESR, RF etc, and although he didn't give the figures, he said RF was negative, but there was inflammation, and they were able to diagnose OA since the RF was something they had ruled out.

Hopefully you will get more information and tests to conclusively diagnose what you have.

    Take care Lucy.

    Hi Lucy

Have you not got a shower at home?

If not then it might be an idea to get a bath board and seat?

The board goes across the bath so you sit on it and hardly bend much more than that - swing your legs round then lower yousrelf onto the seat.

I am sure you can buy them online (try B**ts?) if you want to or ask Gp to refer you to an OT.

    Nice baths can help :(

Have you got psoriasis then? hence the possible PA?

    Love

    Toni xx

hello, thanks for replies, hope your are having a good day so far,

i do have a shower but it a over the bath one so still have to get in the bath, if that makes sense i was hoping i wouldnt need a bath seat quite yet but i might have too,i live in rented accommodation and i know a walk in shower was installed for a disabled neighbour so maybe look into that

i do have psorosis but not severe,i have palmoplanter psorisis on my palms and feet but my palms have cleared up a lot the last few weeks,am so tired today,my hips were the worst they have ever been last night couldnt get comfy in bed and struggled to turn over,i took extra pain killers in the end,i know i shouldnt of but couldnt stand it any longer, its eased off a bit today and its just my left hip hurting and throbbing today, how much pain are we meant to put up with, lucy x
