I had it when my back went and post op too.
It is very effective, but can give you a woozy feeling. At the time i took max dose with no ill effects - now if I take one I am sick!!
They are for moderate to severe pain - likely whjat you are in.
Suggest starting on one tab at night and build up to avoid the yukky feeling?
Good luck

I think just about every drug has a scary list of things that could go wrong, thankfully most of the side effects are pretty rare.
I've been on tramadol a few times. It's very good for my pain but it does make me feel spaced out and drunk so not so good if I have to use my brain for anything. It made me a bit constipated too but apart from that it was great.
Don't be scared off by what you've read, try it and if you don't like it or get side effects you can always stop and change to something different.

I love 'em. I have 50mg ones and I resort to them when the co-co's have failed. I sail off to sleep, wake after three hours, have another and that gets me thro enough of the night. I do not take them during the day. I have never felt woozy or spaced out. They are morphine-based and some people do have trouble with that opiate. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Tony
I have been taking tramadol for a long time now. I personally dont have any side effects although some people on here do. I am taking co-codomol 30/500 at 2 four times a day and I top it up during the day with tramadol. I do know tramadol are particularly good at night. Why dont you try taking one about 8 or 9 oclock and see if they help with the pain and let you have a good nights sleep. We all know a good nights sleep can make the pain seem so much easier to bear. We all react differently so you might be lucky like me, and get help with the pain and sleep, you will never know unless you try. Hope all goes well.
Regards

Hi there - I've been taking Tramadol for about a year now, up to 8 x 50mg a day when necessary.
I've never had any side effects and find I don't need them all the time now, I use them to top up the co-codamol as and when necessary (mainly at night).

Hi.
I take 100mg slow release Tramadol once in the morning then one last thing at night, because I found that with the ordinary 50mg tablets, I was waiting for the four hours to be up so I could take another, or two!
The slow release just keeps you on a more even keel throughout the day, and I have never felt spaced out, or ill on either of them.
My husband only takes his when his pain is really bad and then he can't drive, so each person differs in how they might affect you.
Give them a go and see how you get on, but it may take a while for you to adjust to them. It may be worth putting up with a slightly woozy feeling to get the pain relief you need.
I hope they help, so good luck.0 -
Thanks for the replies I know if you read the leaflet it cures your constipation but mine is in Spanish and I regard it as a challenge to read every bit Will give it a real go.Thanks again everybody!!!!!!!0

Tramadol is a great help for me, especially at night.
I was worried about taking it at first so took my first dose a couple of hours before bed with hubby floating around so if I did have any side effects he could help me or I could just sleep it off.
So far I haven't had any problems. My Gp said this was because I had built up a tolerance to stronger meds and if she was to take one it would knock her sideways. I took that as a warning to not be complacent and only take what I need.

Hi, I found tramadol effective for pain relief but it gave me side effects - vertigo, hot flushes and sweats ... so I stopped taking it.
Different meds suit different folks. Worth giving them a try. Try them at night first or on a day when you don't have to go anywhere or do anything pressing ...
Hope they work for you.

No, of course I don't P&F. I only take two / four co-cos a day and then only if needed, and I only resort to tramadol when they aren't enough. I have a high pain threshold, which is useful. I hope you are feeling brighter for being home. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Tony I take tramadol as well, started off with one then after a couple of days took two. But like Jan say's becareful as taking tramdol and co co is probably not a good idea. You could ring your pharmacist and ask his advice. Good luck with your op.

200mg in one go? No wonder you slept. Was it continuous sleep? That must be lovely. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Ah, I know about the pain/no kip thing. Not good is it? You will find what suits you in time. It's all trial and error with these things. I hope you get a better night tonight - I am due a doozy - much beer followed by a curry and white wine! Works a treat! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I have a king sized bed too - it's amazing how much space one 5'3" husband can take up! Just to make you jealous in hot, sunny Spain: I plan on sinking a Wherry or two, or perhaps an Adnams bitter! Your beery chum, DD.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi there,
I was prescribed Tramadol when I slipped two discs in my back. It worked well for me but only in high doses, so i ended up being put on Oxycontin. But it sounds like it's going to work for you! There are always things to consider when taking any new drug, but that's when we have to really put our trust in the professionals we see. Hope it continues to work for you!0 -
Hi Tony hope you are getting on OK with the Tramadol. I've been on Tramadol 300 mg slow release for a few months now. I take it at bedtime as I think it makes me tired when I first take it, but I don't have any side effects from it during the day. I'm able to carry on with my work, which I wouldn't be able to without them. I hope this is helpful but I guess that everyone's experience is different, so good luck and I hope they help you. best wishes, Brenda xx0

I have given Tramadol a week First dose good nights sleep. Now it seems totally inaffective Maybe my metabolism is different from other peoples Maybe I am not a believer But nothing works The pain just gets worse and worse.Just hope that the hip replacement does the job.I feel guilty that I can't do more in the house and garden and probably push myself a bit harder than I should My Spanish GP keeps saying Reposa But I can't Fingers crossed that Manana comes quickly :?0

Listen to your Spanish GP. Read all the threads on here and the most recurring word would be 'rest'. IT WORKS. You do have to learn to let things, well, not go or slide, you have to learn your limits. You will be on serious rest after the hip-op: please don't tell me that you are doing that 'bloke' thing of 'OK, I'll take a week off but then I can do what I always did' because, tonesp, you won't be able to! Right: beer porn - Adnams, Wherry, Purity, Thwaites Wainwright bitter and Brewer's Gold. 'Nuff said. It was gorgeous. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
