I just hold onto the arms or the table and push up. You can get recliners that can also 'tip' you out, and I think I have seen seat raisers which work in a similar way. Try googling some key words and see what appears! The OT you saw today may have some info too - aske her when she comes back. DD

How about a riser/recliner chair? May or may not be an option....You always see them advertised on the back of saturday/sunday magazines think there are some shops in west yorkshire and other places, cant remember, know have been past one in Huddersfield/Dewsbury...

    hi

my sofa is on chair raisers. They are like up turned plant pots.

I cant have them on the chairs as they are both recliners.

    I wouldnt be without them.

At the moment especially as i have to slide across on to wheelchair because i am unable to wear my prosthetic leg

Not that expensive, under 20.00 from a mobility shop or even look in Ar*** the highstreet catalogue shop as they have some mobility aides

    Hi
Did you mean a device that `pushes ` you out of the chair? I have seen these in a mobility catalogue which was left when my aids were delivered via OT. There is one called `Upeasy Power seat` or `easylift hydraulic portable lifting seat`.
not sure if that was what you were meaning.
If you want the name of the company pm me.

hi nearlybionic i love the name, puts me in mind of the six million dollar man that used to be on tv years ago.

we have a leather suite and dont really want to spoil it this way i can take this thing with me which will be ideal.

Glad you have found what you're looking for, hope it helps.

I can't afford any lifting chairs or disability chairs so I have a few 'unique' ways of getting out of mine. I have a sort of rocking chair which I motion back and forth (much to the amusement of my husband  ) and it kind of propels me forward and out of the chair ~ I only do this when Im feeling more flexible!

and my sofa... I keep my walking stick handy which I push into the back cushion to help me push to the edge of the sofa and then push me out of the chair (also to the amusement of my husband  )

Good job I can laugh about it! x

I use a rocking motion to get myself out of a lowish chair, have about three/four goes before propelling myself onto my feet using my knuckles on the seat. I then unfold.

If I'm really bad I don't sit on the sofa I use a dining room chair and when I want to get up turn to the side and hook my arm on the chair back to lift myself - still sometimes with the rocking motion.

I refuse to rely on any mechanisms because then I'll stop using my own muscles to do the lift and I feel that's a slippery slope to go down.

Hi Yes the rocking motion does work for some people and its worth a try. I used to be a care assistantl, both with disabled and elderly people. We used to say "Shuffle your bottom as far as you can to the edge of the seat cusion, plant your feet a little away from the chair, put you hands on the chair arms or dining table, go backwards and forwards from the hips in the rocking motion for 3 times or so and on the 3rd rock as you come forward push down with you arms and hands on the chair arms and push yourself into a standing position, taking a little step forward to get your balance" of course, it dosn't work if you have a weekness in your shoulders hands or arms because they have to help take the weight.

An occupational therapist will be able to show you different ways and maybe provide some equipment to help you. If you don't have an occ therapist, your doctors receptionist or your GP will be able to help refer you. My advice from having a disabled neice, (not arthritis) is to take advise from the occupational therapist before spending money. The will be able to give you an idea of the best equipment for you and you won't spend lots of money on fancy things that are not for you. My neice was talked into having her bath removed and replaced with a bath that has a door and shower over the top. Her family all told her it wouldn't work for her, but she said the the company specialist said it would and so had it done. She is totally unable to use it, even with careres. The silly thing is she has a downstairs shower and a stair lift. These people, well some of them, make me wonder how they sleep at night! Sorry I didn't mean to go on and rant! Also I sound like a bossy cow!!
