Seen my rheumy consultant this evening.
(Following all the tips and armed with lots of information from this forum)
The consultation was very productive and positive, I felt very confident in my questioning etc.

My previous appt with her had been a farce!!! she told me my hands were better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could see from where I was sat that she had the xrays the wrong way round (date wise). But I was too polite to say!

I could tell she was a bit taken back by the quality of the discussion. Then I let out my secret...Arthritis Care discussion forum! hey she has written it down!...is telling the specialist nurses ! and recommending it to patients!!!!!

Well Done Everyone!! *CB*

hi. Funny you should post that because I've been thinking about telling my useless Doctors to look at this website. :!: :!:
They would learn that we're all different and they cannot put us in boxes

That's really great feedback. I am a firm believer we need to be our own advocate but if we don't stand up for ourselves then we can often be passed over for an easy life.

    Well done you

I saw OT the other week and told them I was getting good help from the forum. She was glad to get the feedback because she oftten tells people to try it. Don't know about docs though.

    Hi Cebeem

I am so pleased you had a good rheumy appt this time - what you said about your hand x-rays last time round was awful - you do wonder about these docs don't you?!

And really well done about telling her about the forum. I really do think that if some of these consultants and rheumatology nurses looked at these forums they would learn a lot about what it's REALLY like for us, and hopefully recommend them to the people that come to see them.

    Love Tilly x

Never be too polite to point out their errors - as laypersons we have no idea what valuable info or insight might be lost due to Xrays being the wrong way round. Docs are human and prone to the errors that all humanity makes - their profession does not exclude them from this, much as they like to think it confers some sort of god-like status upon them. It doesn't. DD

Well done you for speaking out at your appointment.

How interesting they are going to refer others to the forum ... those medics had better pull their socks up!!

I stumbled upon this website and forum whilst researching my condition and operation options ... I wonder how others found this resource? Maybe arthritis care should be distributing posters/fliers more widely...

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

No, I won't do that cthornley. He has you to bring him back down to earth! Make sure you do, on a regular basis, by reminding him that his son is human, not a godlet! DD

    Well done CB :D

I'm glad you had a better rheummy appointment this time..it does make such a difference being 'armed' with information. good on you promoting the forums!

The rheummy hospital I go to has a stand in the waiting area of the day ward with all the Arthritis Care leaflets.... nothing to do with me saying anything though  .

They also have the ARC leaflets in the consulting rooms....

Hi ..That used to be one of my jobs as a volunteer for arthritis care....keeping the local hospital/doctors stand filled with arthritis care leaflets.....Not Arc......we are not government funded either so let them find their own volunteers LOL
