The Millstone!

When she was a kid they dragged her away,
Kicking and screaming she could no longer play,
On your golden sands and in that deep cave,
Where Merlin bathed and was keep as a slave.
Or so they said and it added more mystery,
To a child so lost she went into history,
She became invisible with out a bell,
She had a life that became pure hell.

Yet through it all a voice kept saying,
You will come back maid and I am praying,
That you will return and feel again whole,
Find that peace that will repair your soul.
You will come home and you will be content,
You will survive and know home is meant,
So she did come back, sat in a car,
Watched the sun set over the Atlantic out far.

She knew she belonged and needed the love,
Cornwall just fitted her like a giant glove,
It can be a bind, to have this hold,
But there is not doubt it helps to be told.
Your in my blood, your in my soul,
Away from you I never feel whole,
You have the depth, you got the powers,
But do you have to have so many showers?!

This an abridged version so you been lucky but she don't half call her children.

Before my mother moved she lived down West and I used to come down every leave I got, with the dogs, to help out in her kitchens.... it was duty not pleasure but it did mean I had a bit of time off in the afternoons and could retrace my childhood hiding places.....

I was well into Tales from the Topographic Ocean back then and had it on the car stereo all the way down...... (I do tend to keep playing over and over what I am into in the just now!) but this track used to always play just as you dropped down the hill towards the bay.

This, by the way, is a lousy soundtrack and the real one knocks it into next year! Its all I could find though.

http://www.last.fm/music/Yes/+videos/+1-tuIPEpU8aBE

http://www.last.fm/music/Yes/+videos/+1-x7HR-jX19rE

To this day I feel such a change as you drop down the hill and there in front is the Mount in all her glory :D:D

Daphne Du Maurier said Cornwall hangs around the neck of its children like a millstone ...... I can confirm that one!:lol: For me West Cornwall still calls

I shut up now and go cuddle up to my pain and insomnia (also an amazing track but not by Yes :lol: ) Cris xx

    Hi Trish,

Don't you go worrying cus I had a choice...... let it eat me all my life or bin it and flower I have honestly come to terms with it and forgiven both of them... took a bit of doing but its gone Trish. You can't change the past but you can deal with it I guess?

The scars are there of course but they are very closed and very old scares.

I would have been a very different person without my childhood! Its made me who I am and I guess for that I should than it?!

I promised Joanne I would do a poem.... I didn't expect this one... its the A30's fault :lol:

You take good care of your self Trish and I promise you home or in hospital I shall be lurking and looking out for you.

Try and get some sleep flower and I don't know as I am going to bother... I get the wake up call in 2 hours and just now I might not hear it  (((((( )))))) and so many hopes they don't steal you. love Cris xx

Hey been trying to find the 'proper' version and still haven't but I found this...... now this is beautiful! Live or production

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQ_UvogGQ_A

I found it... it is out there! :D:D

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rHumV4Rg48&p=0F3EC3EE2E0BF66B&playnext=1&index=24

This is in 3 parts but its the real one.... you might want to skip part 3 to 3.34 unless you like drum breaks.... never have 'got' them though I do accept they are clever and require immense skill and stamina.....

Don't you just wish I had been able to sleep.......I know I do but this old pain.... all for a packet of crisps!!:lol::lol: Shall get it sorted.....

Oh its the very last part of part 3 that I used to hit that hill on... will shut up now, promise

and this.... I think I might like youtube after all :lol::lol:

It's odd, the things that pop up when you least expect them. Tales from a Topographic Ocean - wow, that took me back!

An evocative and moving piece, skezier. You have a talent for words and communication which is quite unusual - viz your vocabulary and its use. I love your 'buckets of slurps' and other unique phrases! I hope you have all your poems stored safely somewhere - I re-read Benjamin Mouse every now and again, I love the rhythm of it and the picture you draw.

Mods, we need a proper Poetry Corner somehow - a sticky would suffice, please. Chitchat is a general thread and some of the poems on here have been very personal - they need a quieter arena. DD

    Hi DD,

I guess it is personal  I have misgivings at posting it as you know but I 'wrote' it up on the A30 and like a few of my (can I actually call them poems?) mine they sort of just beam into my head...... gate crash might be a better word

Cornwall really is in my blood and you know to have such deep roots isn't a bad thing... bit insular maybe :lol:

    Right I am off o get a doc's appointment....

Oh do you remember when you first heard Tales it made the hairs on your neck stand up? Its really beautiful, though the drum break I still don't get  (((( )))) Cris xx

    Hey Toni you snuck in!

Thanks flower and yep its a gatecrasher on a roll.... the words just arrive but I must edit another word  It should me many not much...... Why do I write and post it and then take it down to the pc?! ((( ))) and a cuppa xx

I know what you mean by 'gate-crash' - it's a weird feeling but I like the urgency that comes with it. I write the occasional thing too but won't put them anywhere someone might read them! Too timid. Yep, you, read that right. Me, mouthy DD, timid.

As always, my little Cornish Piskie, you deal with your skeletons - and your great loves - in the most empowering way.........words. They leave me with a tremendous sense of peace, despite the obvious pain behind them at times.

You are so right when you say that we can never go back to change things, we can only do that by moving forward......As you do, my love, despite great odds. I have told you this many times Cris.........When you were made, the mold was broken.........Much love.......Ange.

    Hi Cris

All the best poetry comes straight from the heart, and yours certainly does. I love the phrase,'' Cornwall just fitted her like a giant glove''. It is such a vivid image. Whenever anyone mentions Cornwall to me, I think of you now. I have a friend who grew up in Cornwall, but she lives in Australia now. She tells me frequently how much she misses Cornwall still. I can understand that.

All the best, and thank you for the photos of the horses. They are beautiful.

Cris is a very highly intelligent person. Her creative writing is being made into a book. We have seen some of what she has written to go in it and it is expertly written by her.

Cris has it all stored under lock and key. She only puts parts of her written poems and stories on here so they cannot be duplicated by anyone looking on this open Forum.

Cris, how moving and what a privelege to be allowed a glimpse into your soul. You are a very spiritual person and incredibly strong to be able to take your experiences and use them to make yourself a stronger person.

I know what you mean about having Cornwall in your blood, I've not been to Cornwall, but my hometown where I was born and raised is by the seaside, I feel the same about this place, there is no where I'd rather be when I need to blow my cobwebs away.

Thank you for trusting us with your poetry and all that it stands for.

Thank you also for the beautiful pics of the horses, they are so beautiful. I'd love to see them in the flesh one day, not sure that will be possible as we are so far away, but you never know! Love and hugs, Brenda xxxx

    hi cb,

oh its a lovely place. its changing and growing but there are parts untouched or old history and i sometimes slide off to them to recharge.

what parts do you visit. xx

    hi Toni,

i wasn't sure about posting this as you know..... still not totally sure but that's only because i don't want to be seen as a victim... and i know it touches on things that can upset people. but i do trust you all so any reservations are not trust issues. that says a lot about you lot eh.

    Hi Trish,

I think dd is right really, poems could do with their own corner as people would know then what they were looking at before they looked if that makes sense.

hope so much that your feeling a little better and sending you love and hugs. Cris xx

    hi Brenda and Julie,

Cornwall is such a lovely place but its changing..... Julie newquey is now a dive. we avoid it like the plague.... they call it progress.... the jury might still be out on that one....

i remember years ago my father driving across one of the beaches in the old truck ... she ended up being the car i learned to drive in and my very first car... we were about the same age as well  we also tombstones- don't ever try it is very dangerous- at newquey as kids nut now... its an absolute dive. shame really.

hey Julie dd has reminded me Benjamin mouse might have to come back to do a job for me some time...:lol:

right i must try and get clean and dressed and into that car.....give us a hand to stand please

    Hi CB,

    Did you get rain

I went to Minack years ago and saw (I think) mid summers night and it was so full of magic as the sun went down :D You get the most lovely sunsets down west.

I love Porthkernow as well but the walk p and down is too much now... though I have promised my self.....once more....

West Cornwall is my home but its got some beautiful bits and I quite like Zennor Moors as well  And the old Mine on the cliff.....

Hope you enjoyed the rest of it as well? Cris x

    Hi Cris

The weather had been rainy on the north coast and it was blowy at Minack high up on the car park, we went in at 12.30 for a 2.00 performance....we got our seats ate a picnic lunch and the sun was so hot we were baking!
At around 1.10 the rescue helicopter arrived ...we thought it was a practise but a drama unfolded and a man needed medical help out on the rocks...the stretchered him up into the helicopter and flew infront of the audience to a fantastic round of applauds, a collection went round for the rescue service.....the performance had a lot to live up to
after that.( Moby Dick The Musical)...it was funny though!

We have visited most places ...for many years we went looking where the author Derek Tangye resided (Lamorna) I love his books...they make you feel like you are there in Cornwall.

As a treat we occasionally stay at the one of the big hotels up on the Headlands.....other times down in the sand dunes of Holywell
Your poem captured those lovely moments we had when the children were young.
    I want to go now!!!!

    CB,

    Yep another lousy summer

I have to say I am so jealous cus of the Hotel thing... Do you know Gunwallo? There is a Hotel up on the cliffs there and I have always wanted to stay one night in a storm actually just to see what its like :lol:

Cornwall is home so I am biast but it a truly beautiful, if often rugged place :D West Cornwall is just that bit special! You ever been to the Capr and the valley next to it? Its amazing.

Now if it could just have one decent summer :lol: Cris xx

    Hi Barbara,

Ah Holywell hasn't been trashed :D Its the town that has and sad to see.....

You should come down... when we get this commune sorted :lol: I have to say I prefer Perranporth and Porthtowan to Newquay. xx

    Hi CB,

Shall put your name down... do you want a tepee or a long cabin?

There are some lovely places in Cornwall weather you do beaches, NT places are just get a bit of peace.

You paint? Its good for relaxing isn't it? I write as I am not confident enough to paint... though I did enjoy art A level with the practical side :D

I think they signpost Gunwalloe as church cove but I would have to check that..... Google cot valley its beautiful :D

Hope you had a good week end and your bit is now reserved with commune :lol: Cris xx
