This is how it goes sometimes: you are coping with a great deal. You have a new job to discover, arthritis to manage. It's a challenge. Be kind to yourself and I hope you sleep well. DD

    Hi StLucia,

sorry you are having a bad spell at the moment. With a bit of luck it wont last too long and you will start to feel better soon.

I know what you and Iris mean, people ask how you are, so you grit your teeth, smile and say fine thanks .... if we always answered truthfully they'd never ask again!!

    Take care

Thank you everyone, just SO much. Wow what a tough week, I am relieved it is Friday.

I know we all say 'oh yes I'm fine' even when you are hurting so much. I've laughed and smiled all day and felt horrendous inside. How do we manage this?!

The amount of work I've had to bring home is huge, and I just don't know how I am going to manage - all I should do is rest but ...oh help!

We've also got a friend staying for a bit and I'm worried that I'm going to have to be looking after them and I just can't cope.

Is there anything I can do to help myself that I haven't done?! I just can't seem to think as I'm so tired. I've tried heat and cold, and codiene, diclofenac, 20mg mtx, amitryp.

I really hope you guys are feeling ok today.
    Thank you for your support.

    Hi Stlucia,

Well maybe a hot shower and some comfort food would not go amiss.
Then when your friend comes let them look after you. Sounds impossible I know but you will be surprised how people rally round at times like this.
Tackle the work in spurs then rest and natter inbetween.
It's your first week back and you have done really well but at the end of the day you will be feeling tired. Anyone would!!

Thanks everyone, I have just finished working and realised that in the last seven days I have worked 105 hours and I have more to do tomorrow. No wonder i am in a state! My joints are rebelling and my thumbs have turned into sausages along with my fingers. A little lie in tomorrow I think!!

    HI stlucia

Make that a big lie in - not a little one!

You've had a helluva tiring week..

Have you got some of those 'isotoner gloves' which help reduce swelling in hands/fingers? I get mine from the OT Dept at the hospital and they are very soothing..

Hope you have a restful night..

I am so sorry to hear that you are poorly. :( I hope by now you are feeling a little better and can perhaps rest up over the weekend. :) We are all familiar with putting on this act of coping, being smiley and everything is great!

Do let us know how you are,

    Luv

The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

Thanks so much, you guys are really helping me get through this. The friend is more my husband's friend who doesn't know much about the arthritis so I am not expecting him to help me out!!

The isotoner gloves sound like a good idea. I have had my batch of sessions with the ot so I am not sure if I could have them now.

I have to get more work done this weekend, probably another 4 hours to do. I'm going to town with my husband before I do that so I can get a chance to get a break. That reminds me, the gp says that I must apply for a blue badge to help me out on bad days.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi stlucia

I don't see the OT anymore either, but I just phone up when my isotoner pressure gloves are worn out and they send me another pair.. The gloves really help with the swollen fingers..

Oh you must definitely apply for a blue badge. I only got mine this year, but it has been a BIG help..

    Have a good (productive) day..

Make sure you rest. It's your OHs friend so let him do the entertaining. You will have to sort out some sort of coping strategy I reckon: working that much will not sit well with arthritis. Please take care. DD
