Well, it's official, I am no longer taking mtx. Consultant rang me earlier. He's put my steroids up :( . Says that anti tnfs might cause me chest problems too :(:( not sure what he is going to do but is bringing my appt forward. I've also got a sore throat with white spots -might be thrush, might be something else, got to see my gp tomorrow. So it continues. Glad I had a night out last night though!

At least you know where you are meds-wise now. What dose of pred? I have now reduced to 12.5 per day. I hope the throat clears - would you try gargling with salt water? It could help. DD

Thanks DD - Duh! Always forget about the simplest remedies! Just going up to 10mg and then down slowly to 5mg.

Val, I don't know if it is good or bad either, have mixed feelings about it. Spent the last 9 months finding out about Mtx, dealing with it and hadn't paid any attention at all to other drugs! Why is everything so complicated with me?

    Hi Sally

Well, at least a decision has been made.. You've had a really rough time for too long now... Hope the increased steroids sort things out for you in the short term..

Let us know how you are tomorrow ..

    Hi Sally

Fingers crossed that they come up with some answers for you.
At least now you know that the MTX is the culprit.
Will be thinking of you today and truly hope the dr's appointment can put your mind at ease a little.

    Hi Sally,

What a horrible time you're having!

There are other dmards out there that might be more suitable, or maybe a combination might suit you better. Glad to hear your appointment has been brought forward - they're obviously keen to sort you out!

    HI Salamander

sorry you are off the MTX but I hope that whatever they decide to try next works for you.

hi All, thanks for all your messages. Got thrush in my throat and some  Apparently it happens sometimes when you take steroids and antibiotics. My GP just fantastically supportive. Gave me some exercises for my whiplash and yet another sack of pills. Felt better this morning but still very tired this evening. Guess it is going to take a few more days to get over everything - probably to have another onslaught of things at some point!

Good to have a good Dr. Makes all the difference.

Oh I do so hope this weekend is a good one for you. Cotton wool jacket comes to mind

Feet up and lots of TLC is in order I think.

Hi Salamander, sorry about the mtx - and about the oral thrush - you have all my sympathy. As wonky says, this arthur really is horribly complicated and the meds situation really is such a roller coaster ride. Glad your appt is being brought forwards and hopefully the consultant will have some ideas about an alternative combination of meds for you. So pleased you have such a supportive GP - that will hopefully help to make things a bit easier for you.

    Thinking of you.

thanks Tilly. I am beginning to learn what a roller coaster it is. Thought I was sorted on Mtx but reading everyone else's experiences on here I can see that there seems to be a combination of things that work best. My consultant is excellent so have every confidence he will do his best for me. That's all I can hope for.

On another note, has anyone had oral thrush? I feel very unwell with it and wonder whether that is common. Not too much online about other symptoms.

    Hi salamander.

Sorry to hear that you have another ailment to add to your list. It will take time for your body to recover and get the meth out of your system. Hope your immune system comes back a little to help you fight all the bugs.

This is just an idea - not tried and tested. But I think it would be good for you to have some pro-biotic natural yoghurt as the good bacteria in this can fight off all the nasties. But as you have sinus problems, you can get probiotics in tablet form without the dairy products (not good for sinus probs) and you can take this and help re populate your body with good bacteria. You can get these in health food shop or H&B on high street. I also use an excellent mail order company for good quality stuff. Private message me if you want to know which one.

    Hope you feel better soon
