Hi all, what does a trapped nerve feel like??
Went to bed last night and was fine, have woken up this morning with pain running from my shoulder to my neck and also around the shoulder blade (which is worse than the neck). Joints in general are ok and quite settled. It hurts if I move it but also to a degree when I keep it still too. I have had my usual pain relief and hubby has applied some ibuprofen gel and deep heat for me which has improved it v.slightly.
This is the side that I use my stick on and I did go out yesterday.

Hi Hels
poor you
Heat and then ice might be best idea i reckon. You got decent anti-inflams and painreleif??
and of course a fair bit of rest
Our joints put pressure on other bits - I am convinced.

Hi Hels
Apart from a trapped nerve, you could have pulled a muscle.
I have done this quite a few times when relying on my stick, like Toni say heat or ice, they both work, in between resting move it around nice and slowly.
Hope it improves for you very soon.

You may have just slept badly Hels.
When I have this sort of thing, I bung the old frozen peas on for twenty minutes, followed immediately by twenty minutes with a hot water bottle. Then I slather voltarol gel - ibuprofen will do just as well - all over the area. Keep it warm after all that.
As Barb said, get a gentle movement going from time to time.........Ange.x.0 -
Thanks all.
There was no chance of seeing the GP today and the out of hours/drop in around here is rubbish so thats out.
I have had my usual doses of Sulphasalazine, Co-Codamol and Prednisolone, and have some Etolodac for when I go to bed.
I have had a heat patch stuck on the inside of my top today which has helped a little bit, but as i haven't been able to wear my bra  because of the pressure on my shoulder my top doesnt sit right so the patch moves about, sigh!
Am hoping that maybe I have just slept funny and it will be gone in the morning, have had lots of rest today with some simple moving of the area but have to go out later. Will use my stick on the other side though! Fingers crossed it soon goes it is making me
Thanks again for the advice, much appreciated x0 -
Now you are home get a wheaty on it if heat has helped or hot water bottle take care and tomorrow might still be there but a good bit better

Hi hels,
I don't know if it is a trapped nerve or not, but it sounds very painful. Nothing much to add to others posts, hope it improves soon. If it gets intolerable you'll have to risk out of hours service or take a trip to A&E.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
It could be a trapped nerve or it really could be that yo have slept badly and its acting up. I have nerve damage but sometimes the pain is soft tissue... still hurts though and well if it doesn't ease up in a day or so please go get it looked at. Hope its a lot better now? Cris x0

Hi all,
Things are getting better now. The pain is still there but much better than it was
Thanks for all your help x0 -
Hi hels78
sorry I missed your post yesterday :? I wasn't around much!
glad to hear that your pain has eased a bit overnight.
I get pain from PA arther in my neck.. and at times I get sharp jabbing pain running down one arm and have an area of numbness in the back of my arm too.
It's always best to seek advice as your doc can hopefully reassure you about the pain you've been having and suggest maybe physio or alternative meds that may help... .
