Hi All, Been back at work for 1 week now after 3 week shut down, as the week has gone on my aches and pains have got worse, my job is quite physical.
Over the week when I get up in the morning it takes me a good couple of hours to get my-self going ie when I get up my feet really hurt could not lift my right arm up. Today driving home felt my fingers on my left hand claw up, found it very hard to change the gears.
Saw my rheumy Tuesday and of course was not that bad, my last blood test showed my crp and esr was rising.
If it is a flare (gonna sound so so stupid) what are you supposed to do :?:
Hope you can help

It doesn't sound stupid, it's a good question. All I can do when it happens is ride it out - I sleep for England and pop painkillers like they are going out of fashion. I also up my steroids when I really cannot take it any more - that saves me contacting my consultant, flogging to hospital and waiting around for her to tell me the same thing. You will find your own way as you experience them - I'm so sorry that you feel you might be having one now. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

DD, Thankyou very much I have read alot of your posts, the docs are reducing my steroids they hope I will be off them in 10 weeks. Do you take steroids all the time? Junex0

Oh God Yes. I cannot function without them. Mother's little helper ('cept I'm not a mother and would prefer gin!) DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Have they ever tried to get you off them :?:
It seems alot of people seem to take them all the time.
Is there anyone out there who has come off them :?:

HI Joon51,
your type of arther is not the same as mine, but do you think the combination of working again and reducing the steriods is too blame?? Maybe not good timing to be reducing? Just a thought.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Speedy, think you could be right will see how I am over the weekend, if still no better spose I will have to give the Rheumy Nurse a ring, saying that she tried to get me off the steroids in 2 weeks , luckily saw the doc this week and he said no we will do it much slower over 10, so at the moment I am actually more steroids than I was last week

Hi Jun
I hope not
If it is chick then you rest as much as poss and take whatever painkillers and anti-inflams you are allowed - try icepacks/heat on the painful areas.
rest and then rest a bit more
Hope you are ok though
love
Toni xx
Oh and come on here we will cheer you up0 -
Hi thanx Toni, resting now very lucky got a great OH. When I have read posts in the past about people saying what pain and discomfort they were in I thought this is not me must have got the diagnosis wrong, well my mind has now changed, been on my medication since end of June hope my body is not getting use to it.
take care Junexx0 -
I tried to get me off them, and succeeded. Life was not good however. Now? Well, it's still not good but made more tolerable. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Morning DD you seem very knowlegeable wonder if you can help me with this: my left hand I cannot straighten my fingers, its to painful when I try it hurts my wrist, and my wrist on the inside seems to have a lump it doesn't hurt to touch the lump it is squashy, any ideas :?:

None, I'm afraid. I guess it's connected to your arthritis - I cannot remember what type you have. The bump could be a ganglion or cyst - are they one and the same?! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

They seem to think I have RA although they are still not sure, you may have hit the nail on the head gangelion, I have one on my right wrist, on top, although that feels hard, the one on my left wrist (palm side) is soft, I keep wriggling my fingers and that seems to be helping. Junexx0

Flexing them should help to keep them moving - perhaps soaking your hand in a bowl of warm/hot water would help too. Many people around here use hot wax therapy, I haven't yet as there is no need, but they say it helps enormously. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi June,
Sorry its all a bit hurting for you just now. You have had some very good advice there, I go pa and oa and tend to start the day stretching it all about a bit as I wake so stiff and as the day goes on I get freer, normally.
I was just wondering what tablets your n as it might be you need a different anti-inflammatory?
I can't help you on flares as I don't understand it too well either. I know my pa isn't under control but does that mean its a flare so you see its not a silly question.
I hope someone will be able to explain it.. and I shall eves dropYou take care and I really hope the aches and pains become kinder to you. Cris x

Hi Chris My hand is alot better, keeping my fingers moving has helped . Rheumy doc has just upped my mtx to 25mg, when I read how much people on the forum have I do wonder if they put me on a high dose to quick, I am reducing my pred over the next 10 weeks when I should be off. went for a walk today was not too good feet hurting , and shoulders painful , after a weeks work I find I spend most of the weekend resting as I feel so drained. Off to hospital on Tuesday for op pre assesment which is due to be done on 24th Sept, don't know if they will do it ( nothing to do with Arther) but I will be on crutches and the way my shoulders are at the moment, well we will have to wait and see.
