Hi I think i said when I was a way for that long weekend....my unoperated hip seemed to give way....not just give way...the way both have done before but absolute agony...sorry not meaning to be dramatic..just trying to explain...well since i came back I have the most agonising pain in it....back to using one stick [on that side} dont know what else to do.....paracetamol isnt touching it and I'm taking ibroprufen these days as well {not prescribed} havent gone to GP...he's worse than useless and I'm seeing the consultant on Tues. Roll on Tues. I'm going out tonight {sons birthday and we take the family out for a meal} it will be early because Grace g/daughter is only six....I wasnt going to take the stick but now not so sure....it will probably go in the car.....even if it doesnt get used. I'll be on later Hope everyone else is as well as poss.

Love
Hileena

    Hi Hileena,

I'm sorry your un-op hip is giving you grief. It is a good job your op is only weeks away. Hope your consultant gives you some more pain meds to tide you over. Definitely use a stick - I had to whilst waiting for my hip op (in fact, ended up using two crutches when out and about.) You are using the stick on the opposite side to the painful leg aren't you. Hope you have a lovely meal out tonight. Might be worth slipping a cushion in the car just incase the restaurant seats are hard too.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

it might help to use your stick just to ease the pain while walking
I hope you have a lovely meal, & are not in to much pain

    Hi Hileena,

No harm in taking the stick with you tonight. Enjoy the evening and the slice of cake :D
Just take it easy over the weekend and as you say your appointment on Tuesday is not far off.

    Hi Hileena
Please take your stick, I keep thinking I dont need mine, but sometimes my left hip does give way, to be honest I find a crutch much more comfy then a stick.
I know the drawback is you cant fold them up.
You take care and have a lovely time.

Hi, Just got home....said i wouldnt be late LOL. Had a lovely meal.
I wish I still had a crutch or crutches they would be much better I think.
I dont know about anyone else but with OA....i find sitting too long hurts....you are sore and stiff when you get up but on the other hand walking too far hurts as well.
This is different....I've worked out what i've been doing today and when i've been sorest.....to tell consultant......It seems after i have rested eg sitting having that meal I was fine and dreaded getting up because normally i would be sore....but I wasnt.....walked to the car {not far} got home but by the time i had done that, got into the house i started to get really sore again. I'm pretty well dosed up with paracetamol, ibroprufen and gel???? I'm the way i was when I typed my first message. Absolutely weird. Probably tomorrow morning I'll be fine but as soon as I move about it will start again. Sorry for the moan but I just dont understand it

    Hi Hileena

It sounds like the weekend away was the 'final straw' for your unoperated hip and it suffered quite a deterioration...

Not long now until you see the consultant.. why don't you ask him for some crutches ?? It really does sound like you need to be using a stick or crutches all the time now until your operation..

Glad you had a nice evening with the family..

    Take care.

    Hi Heleena,

Funny you saying that cus before my back kicks off it stops hurting..... then suddenly it kicks in at 90 mile an hour. I hope a nights rest will improve it for you, sometimes when you push your luck with the bones a bit of rest is all they need. I really hope you will be ok tomorrow.

Sitting or standing too long gets my bones reving now a days as well.

Hey add the weirdness to your list for the consultant and don't forget to wear big pockets!

Really glad you enjoyed your self and so hope the payback will be short lived. Cris x

    Hi,
Dont worry the list is getting long LOL.....its so peculiar that resting helps it when normally its the opposite....too much rest makes me sorer or stiffer.
I'll remember about the pockets LOL

    Hi Hileena,

Yep big pockets else we get squashed :lol::lol:

Have you got any swelling? See my lumber swells and goes numb before it kicks me...... always cus I have over done something and always my fault I guess?!

I know I have nerve damage there but I recon the swelling and soft tissue bit kind supports it if, a bit like a splint...... that makes sense?

You will be fine on tuesday and sending you a ((( ))) Cris x

I know what you mean. Sit too long, pain. Stand too long, pain. Walk too far, pain. Sleep in one position too long, pain. I think you should be using your stick much more often, to ease the strain on both hips. LIfe with just one stick sounds OK to me for the run-up to your op, and then after as well. Then you can return to no-stick life. Give your bones a chance, hileena! DD

Hi DD, and everyone....thanks for the enouragement.
After op its supposed to be 2 sticks for 6 weeks until you see the consultant. To be honest after the first 10 days 2 weeks I put one of the sticks away as it was more bother than it was worth and just used the one.
Woke up this morning feeling not bad compared to yesterday...usually stiff and sore to start with, drove to church 22 miles and home again. I've dosed myself lOL gradually its starting to get sore again....I havent done much apart from that drive.
Oh well ...its a bit closer to Tues....appt is at 12....ussually they are about 9am and you feel perfectly OK which is annoying LOL
Must go and answer some more posts

Hi Hileena, definitely ask for some crutches to tide you over til op - they'll have to give you some after anyway ... why suffer more than you need too. The last few weeks to an op are the worst ...you just want it done and dusted and to get on with the business of recovering.

Good luck tomorrow, take off your jacket if having x rays otherwise the companions in the pockets will look mighty-weird on the x ray!!

    Hi Hileena

Just popping in to report for pocket duty tomorrow and Wednesday, hope both appointments go well for you. Things are moving a pace there for you. Hope you not in too much pain now. I prefer to try and keep moving if I can with my wonky hips. Sitting down for too long, I certainly seize up and regret it. I will look in again to see how you are doing.
    take care
