Hi all
Hope everyone is feeling chipper on this sunny sunday morning.
Nikki got turned down for DLA which we expected as on the previous app nik did not have full diagnosis and meds sorted etc etc and now she has we are reapplying. my question is timings?
how long does it take to walk 50 metres?
how long on average do you need help moving about each time?
gettting in and out of bed how long on average do you need help each time?
How long on average during the night each time need help with toilet needs?
my head will explode fairly soon and theres so much to write and consider and arggghhhh lol
Poor Nik is really suffering atm and looks like doc will be adding fibromyalgia and depression to list of ailments the poor love is so down with her silly body being a pain in the butt and the fibro on top, oh and she done her shoulder in again and cant use left arm, she said if she was an animal the vet would have put her down by now i said well we haven't got that far yet lol we just need to get everything sorted get the help we need and she will feel better when all the stress of all these forms etc is over its just so much fighting for everything and i know this is the same for everyone and its shouldnt be grrrr wont get on that band wagon again lol otherwise will be typing all day lol
sending lots of hugs to all and hope you not getting brain strain today too lol

Hi
I never got night time care despite not being to pull the covers over me or turn over on my own. I used to wet myself all the time as couldnt get to the loo in time and then could not get the wet clothes off without help from poor OH.
Sorry to be so graphic but I only know of a few peeps who get this higher rate. But get CAB to help and appeal if you feel you should get it. I was advised not to appeal.
The trouble is unless you go through it nobody seems to care or they dont believe you. Dont give in but do mention everything you need to do to help Nik, support getting up or out and about, changing, washing.
The timing thing does my head in too...Even if you can walk 50 minutes carefully and slowly the rest of the day is messed up from the effort.
I am waiting for my claim too.....

Hi Cat and Niki too
I am so sorry to read about how much physical pain and emotional upset Niki is experiencing just now.
Re-applying for DLA is a sensible thing to do... but I know how daunting the task is of filling the forms in.
Approaching CAB or Welfare Rights for support in completing the forms is definitely the way forward. But I have posted a link for you which takes you through the step by step process of the claim and what the terminology all means.
It's a link from an MS site but the document was written by the NACC... for people with Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's Disease but it is still a very useful guide for anyone considering applying. It's a long read so be prepared! but I hope will answer some of your questions and help with the actual form filling.

Hi Cat
Poor poor nik
Will you give her a very gentle hug from me and tell her than No, the vets like to make lots of money out of the owners first
She will start to feel better once the meds all kick in for her. She needs to beleive that most of us felt the way she does at first. Oh and dont be too upset of she gets ratty with you too - I did a bit of that  Didnt mean it either just angry and resentful and in pain
If I were you i would not attempt to do teh forms myself - read what Iris has posted then get some proper help. Bets chance of success.
LOve

Hi Cat, sorry to hear that nik is going through the mill, not just with the range of diagnosis, but facing the battle with the DLA. I had a long do with them, but won in the end, after they decided to actually read what the consultants and gp's had written. It took three goes at them and I was prepared to go to the appeal tribunal, but, they stopped it and changed their decision in the end.
As for times, well, 2-3 minutes to walk up to 50 yards or less, 15-20 minutes for dressing, then add on time for washing and bathing. Preparing meals, safety, risk of falls, inability to go out and about unaided, help with medicines, social aspects, help during the night as well.
I too, have fybromyalgia, OA, chronic heart disease, peripheral neuropathy, GAD, general anxiety disorder, depression, spodylosis of the neck and lumbar spine, it goes on and on. The DLA are not usually concerned about the diagnosis per say, they base their decisions on the amount of care that the person needs from another, this has to be significant and frequent.
Your local carers organisation, welfare rights office and the CAB will all be able to help you, they were very good with me. Don't give up the fight, people on here know what I went through, for months on end. Send every letter, GP letter, Consultants letters, your letters on the amount of care given. Keep copies of everything. Ask for a formal review of the case, given the change in circumstances, each time you ask for a review, it is assessed by another decision maker, say that you are prepared to go to tribunal, but, that would be contrary to medical advice.
I wish you all the best, truly. If I can help any more, I will gladly do so. Take lots of care, XX BubblesXX Aidan (still known as Bubbles).0
